Frank Seravalli recently published an article saying that the New Jersey Devils are open to trading away their 10th overall pick for Martin Necas. It's widely known that Necas is one of the fastest players in the league. So, he most likely won't have trouble fitting in with the Devils. However, when it comes to the 10th overall pick, he might not be worth it. He's a pending RFA and needs a new contract.

Sign Henrique! He'll replace Macleod, give us experience, give us another PK guy, and he's a fan favorite! He won't demand a high salary or long term commitment. It's the perfect replacement.

I think he's worth pursuing and close in value to 10th overall pick, but the sticking point is he needs a new contract and apparently wants closer to $9 AAV which we just can't really do. Fitz says he would trade the pick for someone cost controlled and Necas is the opposite of that right now

The only way I can see Fitz doing it is if an extension at a team friendly rate has already been agreed which if 9 mil is the price he won't pull the trigger

We already have enough players like Necas on this team. I'd rather trade that pick away for an established physical checking forward. He's also not playing on PP1 which he complained about on Carolina. I think the move is just fill out the roster in free agency and keep the pick.

I like him but I feel like we need a defender and to fill out the bottom 6 more and he's going to be expensive to resign. I like that someone commented we need Ross Colton and I'd also bring in Henrique then sign Pesce or Zadorov. I'd also like to see the devils trade Palat to a rebuilder to offload that cap hit. That'll give them tons of flexibility moving forward.

Honestly, I don't want to see Necas brought in on a trade simply due to the money he would command in a new contract. I don't want to see NJ get handcuffed by a contract that isn't resolving an issue that needs to be resolved, such as adding to the defense (which is the number one priority right now as far as I'm concerned). Necas is a good player but the Devils don't need him. As for the #10 pick, unless something really wild pops up as a trade offer, there's a few players floating around that position in the draft rankings that I think would end up being really good prospects for the Devils, so might as well use the use to draft someone. They can focus on filling needs via free agency since there will be a lot of options out there.

You make a lot of sense on Necas being a want more than a need plus the cap hit will be tough for the Devils. I think NJ should trade that 10th pick for Rutger Mcgoarty who wants a trade from Winnipeg. He was a 14th pick in draft and now looks like a top 10th from that draft and he’s ready for the NHL so no need to continue to develop him

As soon as the Canes said they wanted to move Necas, I thought he would be great on this team, rounding out our offense filling the void McLeod left. Is he worth the 10th overall, probably not but maybe?

Necas is a 25yo speedy, 30g/70p scorer. He can play wing on the top 6 as well.

@@millertime1101 Yup….. His contract is awful. Palat 33 years old and is dropping in production from where he was with Tampa Bay. Necas is 25 and his point production seems more consistent. Last season he had 53 points where Palat had 54 total in his two seasons with the Devils…… I think they should also look to replace Lazar when his contract is up. He’s not costing much, but also not doing much……

@@ADB358 never in his career scored 30 (28 isnt 30) and played 82 games once and thats was his 28 goal year.. i would think there is a cheaper 3rd line center than this guy in fact we could draft one that could be ready next yr.. its a no thx for me!! Agreed. I love Holtz but Ruff screwed him up so much he might be better somewhere else. So If you could get Holtz for Mcgroarty, then use the pick and Bastian to get Ross Colton from Colorado. Bring that Jersey kid home!
