December 31st, 1999 Somewhere outside downtown New York Schlatt is walking the streets late at night when he passes a bar and sees a face he had not seen in a long time. When he walks in, he says a phrase that had not left his mouth in far too long. "OL' BLUE EYES!" The man at the bar turns around and is shocked by who he sees. "Schlatt!?" "How ya doin', Frank?" "Great, now that I have someone to talk to! God, how long has it been since we last saw each other?" Schlatt thought for a minute then responded, "Ehh, 'bout a year. Time’s a bitch, ain't it?" Frank chuckles knowingly, "Too true, old friend. So what have you been doing since we last saw each other?" "I've been working at a small comedy club." "No shit, really? I mean, I've always thought you were hilarious. How’s it treating you?" "It's great, actually. I call it 'The Weekly Slap'. I tell jokes for about a half hour or so, then I take questions from the audience and give them advice about life problems. Barely anyone comes to the show, but it's worth it, even if I improve just one life. How 'bout you Frank? What’re you doing these days?" Frank's face drops as he sighs. "I've still been performing, but it’s just not the same as it used to be." "How so? Surely the one and only Frank Sinatra can still sell out the Garden, right?" "No, sadly not. I've been reduced to performing at senior centers and small clubs. Barely anyone listens to the classics anymore. It's no longer about Sinatra and 'My Way', it's NSYNC and "that way." Schlatt thinks for a moment. "You know Frank, I've been thinking. We’ve both been down on our luck for a while, right?" "And?" "And I made something as a gift for both of us to enjoy." What Schlatt slid over made Frank's heart skip a beat. There in front of him, was a Nothing but the Best album. But instead of Frank's young face, Schlatt had taped his own face on top. "What's this?" Schlatt took the album, walked over to the jukebox, and put in the disc. Legend says that the song climaxed precisely at midnight, and that Frank burst into tears. If you ask the man himself, he'll say he made it to combat all the AI covers. He had this sitting in a box somewhere and had an idea. The rest, as they say, is history.

Back when Sinatra recorded the original, the technology was so limited that recording each line separately would be harder than just doing multiple takes of the whole song and choosing the best. At some point producers started using a technique where they spliced together several takes sometimes word for word, but that came after DAWs became a thing. Even then, a crooner like Frank wouldn’t do multi take. Hell, that might even be first take.

It's an unfair standard to say "Well he tried lots of times to get the perfect take so it's not THAT good" when that's what most recorded songs are. Also I think there's a lot of Sinatra romanticism, but that's besides the point.

When I heard the Schlatt cover on twitter, I thought it was just My Way with Schlatt on the cover and I was like "Oh haha very funny." Then after seeing a few more quote tweets on it, I was suspicious so I went to KZfaq and looked for the cover and I was shocked that it was actually Schlatt singing and how close he sounds to Frank Sinatra. I love all of it. no flaws. its perfect. tears of joy 10/10. theres truly no words to describe how beautiful it is, but its got me, a grown ass man that rarly cries, bawling.
