Sinatra’s best years, voice-wise were 1955 to 1970. He could still perform in the late 70’s up to 1985 and put on a decent show but his voice wasn’t the same. After 1988, forget it. I loved him very much but his voice was shot after 1988. People just went to his show just out of respect and love, but you couldn’t see the swagger and strut in his step and power of his voice like he had in 1962. Man, he could belt out a beautiful ballad of Three Coins in the Fountain or Moonlight in Vermont in those years. But, let’s face it, everyone gets old. I’m not the same guy as I was when I was 22 years old. Youth is wasted on the young! LoL😂

I agree too, especially about how his voice was no longer strong enough post-1988. I think he still found big songs that matched his aging voice post-1974, such as "Theme from New York, New York" and "Mack The Knife", but there was definitely fewer. I'm glad he re-recorded a lot of his Capitol songs when he started Reprise in the early 60s, as he sung them much deeper, which would be the ways he would sing them all the way to the mid-80s. There are so many performances he made of those songs were at some points he could almost match the 60s recording in the late-70s. He could have wobbly performances some days of songs, then others were pitch perfect and powerful. As some would say, he could perform bad at time, then other days it was like 40 years just disappeared and he was younger again. Even though his voice was shot in the late 80s early 90s, I wish I was born earlier enough to have seen just one of his shows. He always turned up, and did his best, and respected the audience.

Bowie knew that his end was near and his voice was shit but he didn't deny it at all, and took it straight-on without disguise: the final scene of his final video has him slowly crawling into a pine box, end of video. Sinatra was a man's man and his heartbreak stuff is as real as it gets, but this Duets was not.

I worked with Frank on his first performance on the Jerry Lewis telethon in 1975. I still have the audio recording. I was never star struck of anyone, not even Frank. What i liked most about him was that he demanded perfection from anyone that worked for him. His musicians knew every gesture he made. They were pure perfection to listen to. The performamce he gave was LIVE, no tape delay, no audience. When the band got the cue to play, they played PERFECTLY with zero rehersal. After the studio went dark, he made it a point to thank each and every crew member

I wasnt a huge fan of the Duets records, but it shows just what a fantastic song stylist Sinatra was. His voice was past its peak by a couple of decades, but he was still a master of phrasing - he was charisma personified...very cool guy.

What a great review of great entertainment from a great era. Frank could certainly punch out a song, or on the other hand caress you with a ballad. And how about some of his duet friends. Jimmy Durante came out of left field for me. Perry Como and Deano, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gourmet. I'll be watching this over again...

Reminds me of the duets with the late Tony Bennet. However, I preferred Bennet's last duets judging from the quality of his vocals, videography, and context (he was battling dementia and was only more himself when on stage singing.)
