Frank Turner is such a great musician and showman. Many of the people in the crowd may not have even been familiar with him, but he got them participating like they've been die-hard fans. I got to see him over a decade ago where only about a dozen people showed up, but he put as much heart into that show as he does for packed arenas. I'm so happy for him.

I can confirm. First time I saw him he was a new name to me, but when it was over I walked away with a big happy silly smile on my face.

+Larzz Wright Depends on if you value critical response or how someone's sound/beliefs progress over the years. You could always condense things and just hit the compilations and then his most recent before going back, but I'd say start at the beginning of his discography and work forward. He's only written one song that I truly loathe, so it'll probably be an enjoyable project.

+Larzz Wright I love it. Frank Turner, Florence & the machine, Fall Out Boy, Rise Against, Elliot Brood, The National. All bands that get absolutely no radio-time here in Denmark, and I discovered through youtube etc. But it makes it fun finding good music.

Wow, just learned of Frank this morning via the song, "Get Better" from a show in 2000. Their melodies somehow remind me so much of Saw Doctors. This band bears more looking into! lol

I have seen Frank and the boys in large and small venues...definitely better in small more intimate venues. They kill it, and to get the appropriate energy level you really need to be right up there in the pit...

Heard "The Next Storm" and thought I was an instant fan, was going to buy tickets to his show here- but heard the anti-god song and noticed the anti-god preaching element in a lot of his lyrics- I find this as grating as someone who does the opposite and preaches in their music. Now I'm disenchanted. Lost a fan here, I'm afraid.
@lalangue
@lalangue 8 жыл бұрын
+nijimasu1 I think it's not being about anti-god. It's about being pro yourself. He's totally ok with anyone who beliefs in any religion, as long as you don't harm anyone with it. He's an atheist, that's true, but he welcomes everyone at his shows, as long as the person is a good one.
@nijimasu1
@nijimasu1 8 жыл бұрын
+lalangue that was the vibe I originally got from his songs, but when I heard"glory hallelujah," it changed it for me and poisoned all his lyrics for me- making them all preachy, albeit atheist preaching. It even made "song for Josh" seem like the ultimate hypocrisy.
@ThatWouldBeCareless
@ThatWouldBeCareless 8 жыл бұрын
... can I ask what's hypocritical about an atheist writing 'Song for Josh'? Also 'Glory Hallelujah' is like a celebration of our atheism, the same way hymns can be a celebration of religion. It's not like being one is dependent on hating the other - but leaving religion and realising atheism is right for you is something to be celebrated for us, the same way finding god is something to be celebrated for you. It's really important to try and imagine it from the other point of view. It's not hating you to celebrate who we are.

+ThatWouldBeCareless please re-read my comment.i certainly wasn't coming at this from a pro-religious standpoint. I simply have no love for preachy music no matter what it's preaching for.. and that song is a good example why. by using the style and words it does, it at least tacitly ( if not overtly) mocks the belief system it borrows from, which fosters divisiveness among people. I don't think anyone can dispute that, and that sort of (I'd say snide) negativity between belief systems is what has caused and still causes the majority of strife for the human race at large. As far as Song for Josh, perhaps I am ignorant about atheism. I'm under the layman impression that atheism does not contain any sort of consideration of any kind of afterlife or continuing consciousness after death. From that standpoint, I find the Song for Josh indeed hypocritical. Poor Josh is dead. Nothing left of him. if you're singing a heartfelt song like that to him there's something amiss. if you feel guilty that you could have helped him not take his own life, sing a song of guilt to yourself. sing a song apologizing to his mom. sing a song appealing to others to help their friends before it's too late. But don't allow yourself to bask in the warm fuzzy of singing to someone who has passed if a few minutes before you were proclaiming "There is No (afterlife)."

God that's disturbing. It's more like 'here's what I wish I could've said to you / could say to you'. That's like... The point of art for some people, in some situations. To say what you know you can't actually say to someone.
