Ok, so this should help you out John. I would take your heaviest tray and match all of the lighter ones to that weight by using painters tape or foil tape on the outside edge. Works great for me.

Take all 3 and post them on your favorite forum for sale. Them u will have almost enough to buy a auto trickle and scale. Then u will have accurate loads as fast as all three of us hose will drop and to .02 in stead of .01.
@gavib09
@gavib09 2 жыл бұрын
You're likely never going to get consistent results using 3 different scales, and these scales are only accurate to +/-.2gn. You are dealing with a lot of variables. Best you can do is sand down the heavier plates to the same as the lightest one (you'll have to pick a scale to be the control for this. Meaning weigh all 3 plates on the same scale) then calibrate all 3 scales using the same calibration weights. But I suspect it will all fall apart during the powder calibration process, maybe skip that step if you can as I'd bet they'll all calibrate differently. What matters most in reloading is consistency and repeatability. what reads 24.5gn on one scale may not read the same on another. Even if the measure is not actually 24.5gn as long as you use the same scale and that scale consistently measures out the same amount you will have good results.

...I'm fixin' to load .38/.357 for the first time (I've been loading, off & on, since I came home from the Army in Germany in 1974 - started on an RCBS Rockchucker and graduated to progressives in 1986 - been loading .45 ACP & 9mm mostly with some 5.56, 7.62x51 & .45-70 along the way) but want to develop different loads for various types/weights of bullets in small batches of 6 to ten rounds each before deciding which ones to run on my Lee 4000 & Dillon RL500B...figgered this Intellidropper would make the tedious works of dialing in numerous powders/weights much easier...it's worth 200 bux to try and will come in handy when I load rifled rounds - I've already got my pet .45 & 9mm loads...

You should use gloves. Use nitrile gloves to keep the oils on your fingertips from effecting the weights. I'm not sure what kind of accuracy those scales have, or what class of weights those are. However, the scale has enough resolution to potentially be pretty accurate. Also, use +90% isopropyl alcohol to clean them.

Or here is last idea, LOL. number each tray to each machine so you dont mix them up and your fine, once you zero with that try and you keep using it on the same drop your all good

The results you got in your last video when using CFE 223 is pretty typical for the vast majority of spherical powders but CFE 223 in my experience no matter what I do or what I use it for the only thing consistent about it is how inconsistent the velocities are... That said it also tends to give really good velocity numbers. I like running Vihtavuori N133 and N135 in 223 but Vihtavuori powders in general have become my safety net because it don't matter what I do it gives me extremely stable velocity numbers... I've been looking into getting one of these and I think you just made up my mind for me because for the price of these Intellidroppers seem to be a great deal and time saver. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!

Nice video. Even with the not reading the same it was within specs. When you measure from one dropper that has a 1 tenth grain + - and then take that charge to another dropper with a 1 tenth grain + - you can end up with 2 tenths off and still be in spec. They were both independently calibrated with different weights and different weight powder pans. Think about it. You video was quite informative and shows that this will work for your application. I have one of these intellidroppers myself.

Old video, but I’ll comment anyways. The reason I get 35-34.9 is because the are accurate to the 1/10 so it’s rounding. So ur probably getting 34.96 on the right and 39.94 on the middle, most likely u are within a couple 1/100th which is way more than adequate for standard reloading. Unless ur gonna take the time to do every possible precision accuracy step, you will never notice it. For the price of these things, that’s excellent.

Brother, I admire your modern and high tech approach here. I really do... As for myself, I believe that I'll stick with my old Redding scale from the 50's with the oil reservoir to calm the balance bar. It's worked for the last 60 years without issue. But have fun with the new gizmos.😬

If you was to use one of them with a single stage you can be seating your bullet while your next load is dropping. Then depending if you crimp or not you can just do that when your done seating. I always enjoy Johnny's Reloading Bench. Ultimate Reloader is good too. Have you ever watched Eric Cortina? That guy really know his stuff.

When you're calibrating, let your weight stabilize before hitting calibrate again for the 100g weight. Also, I'd be curious how much it effects them sitting on the same table running at the same time. I've found if I'm watching a video, I'll prop my phone up on my bench (very heavy duty workbench), but the sound vibrations from my phone actually throw my scale off. Also my fluorescent lights tend to mess with it.

I have a RCBS and they have treads inside the powder tube. Sometimes trying to get that last tenth a kernel are two will drop off making it over by a tenth. Doesn't happen often but a Hardy's drinking straw with a piece of electrical tape wrapped around it inserted in the end will help. Those you have may not have that problem.

@paunchouspilot6757 2 жыл бұрын
I understand the frustration. I use a beam scale to back up my RCBS charge master. .1 difference between the 2 usually. For a quick check I measure the 50grm weight. It should be 771.618grn. So 771.6 is what I expect to read.

I think I remember from JRB video when using multiple pans to file fown the heavier ones to match the weight of the lightest so they are all the same. I think taking a it off of the handle would be the easiest.

Great video showing why not to buy that product…. Also shows that Gavin though a great guy, might want to take more time and truly evaluate the accuracy of the Free products he’s given before saying how great they are…. Anyone that’s done research on this product will see several issues with accuracy.

That's a bit nit picky sir, there would be NO difference in performance between a cartridge with 34.9 or 35.00. NONE! Talking while doing this could cause your breath to mess up the scales. Unless you're shooting under the EXACT conditions, a clean barrel each shot, the firearm mounted in a VICE, 0 wind, same temps, humidity, every thing, you'd not see any difference.
