Het Nederlandse televisieprogramma "Countdown" was van 1976 t/m 1993 “Europe’s Number 1 Rock Show” en werd uitgezonden bij Veronica. Later werd het programma ook uitgezonden in het buitenland en was het op z'n hoogtepunt in meer dan 20 landen op televisie te zien.
Gedurende deze 17 jaar muziekgeschiedenis zijn er opnames gemaakt met talloze internationale sterren, zoals Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, George Harrison, U2, The Police, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Lenny Kravitz, Depeche Mode, New Order, Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, R.E.M., Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Cure, Run DMC, Cyndi Lauper, Iron Maiden, New Kids On The Block, LL Cool J.
Uiteraard kwamen Nederlandse top-acts als Doe Maar, Andre Hazes, Herman Brood, Frank Boeijen, Spargo, Golden Earring, Time Bandits, De Dijk, De Raggende Manne, Hans de Booij, Gerard Joling, Drukwerk ook langs voor een optreden in Bussum.
Countdown werd gepresenteerd door oa Lex Harding, Erik de Zwart, Adam Curry, Simone Walraven Wessel van Diepen, Jeroen van Inkel, Rob Stenders, Simone Angel en Jasper Faber.
Het Countdown archief is vrijwel helemaal compleet en sinds 2017 eigendom van het Amerikaanse Reelin’ In The Years Productions (David Peck - reelinintheyears.com/) en Double 2 Hilversum (Jan Douwe Kroeske - www.double2bv.nl). I think it's sad that people make excuses for these guys' behavior. So what if they mimed Relax a thousand times? It's one thing to be bored, it's another to mock someone. Mark attacked Holly several times, but it's safe to say the whole band was pretty mean to Holly, especially his so called friend Paul. I certainly wouldn't have been in Holly's shoes. That's why i'm so angry that Holly is being blamed for the disband when he really had no choice but to leave. In my opinion Paul and Mark were lovers and maybe still are. Mark and his wife often visit Paul.

@@justhannah3960 Why does people ignore Paul's double middle finger action at 1:01? It's easier to find moments when Paul and the band aren't mocking Holly. I think Mark teases him for a reason with that "just looking at you makes me mad" look, then they whisper and laugh at him behind his back with Nasher, just like he used to do with Paul at every opportunity. This didn't just happen when the band officially disbanded, it's been the case from the beginning. I get the feeling that they wanted him to quit on his own and when it all settled down I guess Paul would've take his place. I feel sorry for Holly that he had to work in such a toxic environment for years, it seemed to me that it took its toll.

These guys and Paul didn't care about the audience in the least, they just wanted to making jokes and have fun at Holly's expense. I find it downright repulsive that they put all the blame on him for the disband after the way they behaved to him. They're controlling almost everything now. The official FGTH page on Facebook is run by Nasher, the "fan" group is run by Nasher's wife and her best friend who is close to the lads. They filter out any content that points out their disrespectful, abusive behaviour towards Holly. Such as Mark assaulting Holly several time and Paul also verbally and physically abusing him. I also find a lot of pages of scathing criticism that is very much Paul's style. These guys are still hate him. They're pathetic, Holly was too good for them.

I thought there was some piss taking going on but actually I think Paul's just goofing off. They're miming Relax probably for the ten millionth time that month, they're breaking up and everything's going to the dogs so why not try and have a bit of fun. I was reading too much into it before.

@@justhannah3960 In the last few years they promoted the Liverpool album with completely new songs and only had to perform Relax live at concerts. This was their last TV appearance, but it was probably the last time they were in the same room before the disband. Holly needed a bodyguard because he was repeatedly attacked by Mark, Paul, Nasher. None of them ever respected or loved Holly and this was apparent from the begining not just at the end. They always looked down on him, always joking and having fun at his expense.

I'm so disapointed by the way these lads, with the exception of Ped, make fun of Holly here when he looking so fine and do his best. They wasn't just make fun of him after his fight with Mark and after he aliniated himself from them. They did this earlier and whispering behind his back. Here they're not even trying to pretend they're really playing or singing. They disrespect not only him but the audience.

I'll share my theory about the movie "All of us strangers" with you happily. I'll bet you anything that this film is about the romance between Mark O'Toole and Paul Rutherford during Frankie Goes To Hollywood. When Rutherford was unhappy about being cast as second fiddle to Holly Johnson, who he always detest and O'Toole, who was in the closet shared that feeling so they found each other very quickly. You can see in the old footages that they were very fond of each other and only cared about each other. Which wouldn't have been a problem, but they were very unprofessional even during concerts and TV appearances because they couldn't control themselves. I think their behaviour must have been very disturbing for Holly and led him to quit and the split of the band. I think they're still in a relationship with the blessing of Mark and Paul's 'partners', who I think appear as Adam's ghost parents in the movie.

What a jerk that Mark was. It's one thing to have a crush on Paul, or to be obsessed with him, but that didn't mean he had to pretend Holly didn't exist. Not only did he not want to look at him, but he wouldn't even look in his direction, or simply look right through him and watch Paul. Whatever it was, for the sake of a TV appearance, he should have put up with being near him for 5 minutes and pretending to play. How could he despise Holly so much? As for Holly, I can understand why he didn't look at him and the rest of the band after they slagged him off, Mark kicked him and attacked him a few times and the whole band made it clear that he was persona non grata. God, that he had to spend his best years with such jerks. It's beyond sad. After all this Mark had a butt hurt expression. Oh, Mark, did Holly's back hurt your knife?

So it looks very much like Nasher, Paul and the guys and Trevor Horn want a cut of the proceeds from Holly Johnson's solo album. So they're claiming everything he's ever released or written and they want to take literally everything he's ever had. Because Nasher's comments very much imply that, and in fact he was talking on X about Holly going to a very warm place. I wonder what he meant by that, the so called "hell" of feminazis and their order, is that the shithouse he keeps referring to or is he talking about an actual prison? What right do these scum still have to abuse and harass him? They only "befriended" him out of interest, got him fired, physically and mentally abused to get him to quit the band so that he could become a slave to ZTT. To get their hands on his original songs and give them to people who were not half as charismatic, talented as Holly. @@MaggieKeizai I really like Holly and the way he was treated is disgusting! Isn't it your job by any chance to check what people write about FGTH's lads and Holly Johnson? I think they've spent the last 40 years systematically building a strategy to make sure he doesn't stand a chance against them and destroy him completely and whitewash the lovers Rutherford and O'Toole and a few feminazis! Even now they are constantly bullying Holly by hiding behind fake and other celebrities' accounts and want to put their opinions about him in the world's mouth! I don't know where he's but whatever happens to him I know they and the "fans" are behind it. Could it be that he's no longer alive or has been arrested or is being fattened up? Or with the sperm they have extracted from him (fans asked for it) they have artificially inseminated women and forced a family and a wife on him? I don't know which version is worse, but I do know that he isn't here and whatever happens to him, he will be a public enemy or he will be publicly humiliated or pushed aside and I know that they're behind it! I think they set him up very badly with the whole FGTH thing, crippled him and who knows what will happen to him now if he is even alive! I hope with all my heart they get back at him for all the wrong they did to him!
