This is the original version of the song. The others are all covers. Frankie Goes to Hollywood were a band. Holly Johnson was the lead singer.

According to wikipedia this was a christmas themed music video: The Power of Love" became Frankie Goes to Hollywood's third consecutive (and last) #1 UK single in December 1984. To commemorate the Christmas release, Godley & Creme directed a Nativity-themed video for the single, and the artwork for the single also used traditional Christian iconography. The original showing of the video on The Tube featured the Nativity occupying the whole screen, however the borders of band members were added for later showings due to pressure from UK broadcasters.

What? Really? Well I guess that kinda makes sense if it was christmas themed

Music videos were a new thing back in the 1980's and could often be confusing at times. This song is so powerful, though, because it tells the truth. Everything good in life, and the world, comes from the power of love, which comes through the heart and soul.

It's quite simple. Their first video was about sex (relax), their second was about politics (two tribes) and this their third was about religion. It must of worked as all three got to number one in the UK

First, let me thank you for reacting to my suggestion, even if others also suggested it! Second, sorry, but no I am not confused by the video and song. There are many forms of love in the world, that of two lovers, a parent for a child, a grandchild for their grandparent, a teen for their best friend, teammates in a team sport, and many more. The Christmas message, no matter what else it is, is a message of Love. This was celebrating the birth of Jesus who was destined to sacrifice His life to save us all from sin. Bottom line is "The Power Of Love"! A less confusing song I could recommend next is "Fly At Night" by Chilliwack! I'd be grateful if you could add it to the bottom of your list! Peace!!!

Wait, God created us knowing we would sin - and then had to send himself, as a sacrifice, to forgive us? If I was more sceptical, I wouldn't believe you. I'm sure Holly Johnson appreciated the persecution he received from Christians for his sexuality.

It's nothing about Christianity, it's about LOVE which is not exclusive to Christianity is it? The video had nativity references because they released it at Christmas
@andyfield73978 ай бұрын
In the UK it was released at around Christmas time, the Christian message of the ultimate power of love coming to earth as a baby fitted the song - not sure the band were as keen though

The message of Jesus coming was 'Love', he purged everyone's soul, and had 'death defying love' for us, paying for the sins of all of us, so that our souls could have everlasting life in heaven. I take it, that this is the message behind the song-- based on faith in a time when 80's Rock certainly didn't much explore that genre. Thanks for reacting to this song.

She's too hung up on the video, it's really not that deep. Just saying that love is madly powefful and it's something we should all have
