Team 8808 here, Bayou Regional finalist. A little insight as to why lambots started playing defense: During the autonomous portion for finals 2, you see that lambots fails pretty heftily. This failure actually broke their arm and was the cause for the 30 points of penalty that we received as their arm was entering other bots while disconnected

Team 6517 here (Launching bot from Smokey Mountains Regional), that tip in the final match made us put replace the polycarbonate belly pan with a steel one for Worlds lol. You can actually see me on the camera behind the chairs on the right.

to clarify at 10,000 Lakes Chicken Bot Pie was not subbed out, it was the Alliance Captain Falcon Robotics, due to a broken swerve module

Kind of confused about that first bumper detachment penalty, since it looked like it was caused by a collision from the opposing team. Would it be penalized if a bot attempted to rip an opposing bot's bumper off to disable them for the rest of the match?

Not having full bumpers on your robot is considered to be a safety issue for interacting with other robots. The disable is not meant to punish the team with broken bumpers but prevent them from damaging other robots or the field with hard uncovered surfaces. That said, if an opposing robot intentionally damaged them by ripping off their bumpers with some robot mechanism, they would likely get a red card. In this case however, the bumper just came off due to ordinary contact with the opponent robot's bumpers.
