Whats the crack, is it safe to pull the jellyfish sting off off someone or will it sting you too?

It looked like it was in Hawaii. Our sea jellies are not as potent as the ones down under. But it does hurt badly.

Videos I've seen of jellyfish you can see them in groups. In these videos there are none visible at all. What gives?

​@@chuckh4077It was a loose tentacle. The cells in the tentacles sting automatically, so dead tentacles from dead jellyfish still sting you. There probably weren't any jellyfish nearby at all. Also there are lone jellyfish often, it depends on the jellyfish.

Box jellyfish are small and pretty much invisible, they don't have a distinct color like others do. It's very easy to run into them and not even notice until you get stung. Their stings are extremely painful and some species are deadly, but the one she got stung by isn't unless you are allergic to it.

@@AccidentallyOnPurpose thank you! I was wondering if it was that or like a tentacle could be broken off floating. my only experience with jellyfish are the ones in the Carolina coast that tend to be dead by the time they get to the swimming area but still pack a mean punch

They're basically invisible. You either just sort of run into them, or them into you... If you're that unlucky. It makes me scared of the ocean

wow- really? that says a lot. why type of sting was it? I swam into a school of small jelly blobs in the USVI last year. I was mostly fine. Had a rash guard and long, thin dive pants on that must have helped somewhat.

@@UTAH100 I was wearing nothing but shorts. I don't know what species of jellyfish they were but they straight up tore me a new one. I don't know if peeing on a jellyfish sting really helps but I'd have had to be pissed on from head to toe and that wasn't going down, lol. Sea creatures don't play around. Cheers!

U can definitely tell the blood had drained from her face and she was super weak. She needs to be really careful. A second sting could be worse.

That's what I thought also. I wonder why they didn't use a gurney or stretcher for her since she couldn't feel her legs?

Looked to be a sandy area, gurney's don't like sand. Since she didn't have broken bones or traumatic injuries it was easier then getting a gurney down and trying to push it thru sand. They make beach capable wheel chairs but they have really big flotation tires.

To save time... She had no injuries other then the sting from the jelly fish so no harm in carrying her like that.

Gurney's wheel would burrow in the sand. They can get a board stretcher, but that would take time going back since she doesn't have any spinal injury or unconscious. It's faster to just hand carry.

depends on which species, the ones off Australia yes, off Hawaii only if highly allergic. They do sting a lot like a blue bottle.
