Wiley Brooks (1936-2016) was an interesting character. He founded the Breatharian Institute of America, an ideology around the belief that one can survive without food or water and subsist solely on prana, or life energy.
In 1983, Brooks was reportedly seen leaving a Santa Cruz 7-Eleven with junk food (reported as a chicken pot pie, biscuits, and chili in some newspapers and twinkies, a Slurpee, and a hot dog in others). In a 2003 interview with Colors magazine, he admitted to occasionally breaking his fast with a cheeseburger and a cola, claiming that consuming junk food helped balance the influence of junk culture.
Brooks later asserted that all McDonald's locations were built on properties protected by 5th-dimensional high-energy spiritual portals and advocated for consuming Diet Coke and the McDonald's Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese ("It is also acceptable to combine 2 quarter-pounder with cheese burgers to make one double-quarter pounder if you can't get the double-quarter-pounder with cheese where you live"). He also discouraged drinking water of any kind. The concept of interconnected 5D and 3D worlds was central to Brooks' beliefs, and he urged followers to eat these special 5D foods and meditate on specific magical 5D words.
Despite the controversies, he continued to promote Breatharianism through seminars and workshops for decades. He charged prospective clients between $100,000 and fifty billion dollars for "Immortality workshops" that were specifically aimed at billionaires. In 2016, Wiley finally ascended his physical form to the fifth dimension after dying of natural causes at eighty years old.
