Martin Starr was phenomenal in this role. Easily my favorite character, he was perfect for it. Honestly, I feel like he should have received some type of award for his performance as Bill, especially in this episode. That end bit always makes me cry.
@betod3113 Жыл бұрын
He should be mad and upset at his dad for not trying to be there for him at least like some do when they split with the mom.. Mr Frederick's just trying his best with him he loves his mom and cares for her hope bill realize that what his dad didn't do another man can..
@slydEvil353 жыл бұрын
Bill in the back seat made me cry hard the first time I saw this. You can see in his eyes he’s not mad at mr Fredericks, he’s mad because it’s not HIS dad taking him to go cart city. It’s not HIS dad professing his love and appreciation for his mom. It’s not HIS dad comforting him. Mr. fredericks seems like a good dude and is trying...but it’s never the same as your real dad. Also I think this was kind of the nail in the coffin to his youthful dreams of his parents getting back together. God I don’t miss being 14!

He shouldn't that way with Mr Frederick's he loves his mom and cares about her he should be happy for them and upset at his dad for not being there for him.. my opinion that happens when u get with someone with kids they don't accept the other person cuz they don't want for someone else to replace there dad or are afraid of the mom being happy with someone else..

@@betod3113 he can be however he wants. His mom should have known bill wouldn’t be comfortable with his own f’ing gym teacher banging his mom without at least talking to him about it

The end of this episode is so great, when he tells Fredericks to wait for the commercial and then he'll tell him about Dallas!

I’m with you, Bill. Crying in backseat with you. Kids always lose in divorce situations. Mine wasn’t GoKarts but Candyland at 4. Applause to the writers.

Good scene. I love that song, while they intensely go cart race, and then Bill crying was sad. 😓 I wish we would have gotten to see more explained about Bill's dad, but the show got cancelled. I think that the viewers can assume that he misses his dad ever since they divorced, though. And he doesn't want anyone to take his place, let alone his gym teacher.

Genuinely I feel for both here. I was bill about 6 years ago and now I guess I'm like Coach Frederick's right now. Personally my favorite episode.

Damn Bill still managed get a quick chuckle from me with that “what do you know about it?” reply and then hit right back in the feels with that private crying. Martin Starr completely stole the show

I grew up watching this show and I love how this scene captures Coach Frederick’s love for Bill’s mom. Of course Bill doesn’t like it, which is understandable knowing how the coach treated him earlier, but I think it finally hits Bill that there is a caring-loving-side to Fredericks that he hadn’t seen before, and it overwhelms Bill, which is part of why he starts crying.

When tv was real and people showed their feelings. Nowadays it's all canned and bloody hypocrisy, and if feelings are shown you're either ignored or laughed and snobbed at! Just an opinion.

Even in 1999 TV was superficial and this was NBC's red-headed stepchild. In my opinion though throughout I feel the through the worst eras of superficiality in American History you do tend to get more emotional and great media to think the Reagan era, the Netflix era of the present, and the turn of the millennia/post that makes us feel as though showing emotion 9-11. I also do think showing feelings is just a public shaming thing in modern times as this bullshit facade of if I show no authentic feelings I am smart and successful. People stigmatize those who are more emotional as irrational, unintelligent, and unsuccessful. Those things matter when you live in a world or time period that worships the narrow definition of smart and successful as opposed to authentic, emotional, and a bit "dumb"/unconventionally smart. Btw I am kind of happy I am a bit stupid but fun-loving/preferring to live authentically and I feel most people tend to prefer that but b/c being smart is treated as the be all end all no one is allowed to express that. Idk this is just my opinion.

Unironically the stupidest comment given this show was cancelled. If this came out today it'd have gotten more seasons.
@samwoodson96032 жыл бұрын
I think the opposite is true and the reason this show flopped was because of that. No doubt in mind that if it came out in the 2010s it would have done better than it did in the late 90s/2000s. I was alive when this came out. TV, for the most part, was insanely fucking stupid. It’s still mostly stupid, but late 90s-2005ish I want to say was maybe peak dumbassedry of television.
