ABOUT THE THREE QUESTIONS WITH ANDY RICHTER
Host Andy Richter asks the same three questions to each guest: Where do you come from? Where are you going? What have you learned? These three simple questions, when answered honestly and thoughtfully, are enough to provide a pretty complete picture of who a person is. The answers are what Andy always wants to know about people. This will not be a one-sided process, as Andy won’t shy away from getting personal himself.

One of the main reasons I love Portlandia is the sweetness. It's basically non-stop roasting of a particular set of people, but it's so affectionate, you're always rooting for the characters. In a way, they're all just Freds and Carries from various alternate universes, bumping up against all these loveable secondary characters, with a parade of scene-stealing guests sprinkled on top (Kumail is probably #1 for me, but there's stiff competition from Steve Buscemi, Vanessa Bayer, Kyle McLaughlan, Jeff Goldblum, Ed Begley Jr, Chloe Sevigny and many more). One of my top 3 comedy series of this millenium, I think.

I hate it and everyone who watches it. This show was the beginning of housing prices tripling. And thousands of posers and junkies moving here. Thanks guys for killing something unique because you were to unoriginal not to laugh at us. Pricks.

Blackout is my favorite episode. With the mayor gone astray, and Fred finding him immersed in the woods and speaking in tongues with him; and then the walkabout with Birdman and Teener and Nance. Just magical. I can watch it over and over..

As a lifelong Portlander I can say that show has this town dead to rights. My favorite is when the two of them endlessly say “go ahead “ at the intersection. The altruism people feel here when they do that is matched by their obliviousness to holding up dozens of cars to let one can into traffic.

You suck, this show was the beginning of the downfall of Portland. All the real freaks were protesting and trying to tell everyone what would happen. Then it did. Prices went up and a flood of posers came looking for a fantasy life they didn’t have the balls to create for themselves.

It's still an awesome place. There's a lot more tents on the side of the road than there used to be, but that's the whole West Coast, not unique to Portland. If you moved there because you saw the show, then I guess I can see why you might be disappointed, but there's been a seedy quality to the town for a long time. A lot just weren't around back in the day to remember the 80s and 90s. I'd rather that people had homes and I could do with a lot less graffiti, but it's a big place full of trees and there's lots to do and great food and people will almost always let you merge when you're driving around.

@@MDK2_Radio I assume that the supposition is that the popularity of the show encouraged a larger influx of people from around the country to come check out the cool town they saw on TV, causing a home-buying boom in the region. I don't have the graphs and charts, but it at least sounds reasonable that there was some kind of impact. I don't know if it IS true; likely almost all of those people would have come anyway since Portland has been one of the worst-kept secrets for the last 40 years. But it certainly FEELS true.

Lol. Portanders need to get out into the rest of the country... the entire country is in shambles. Real estate prices everywhere are insane. There are no real jobs. Fun, hip, local places are replaced by boring chains. The "downtown revival" movement took a heavy hit during the pandemic. And rich out-of-towners and investment bros are actively changing the character of every new market they move into. Its the whole country.
@NotHeresrsly

I know this is a KZfaq comments section, but can you elaborate (genuinely asking)? I visited last year, and noticed that Portland is very segregated (just like many cities, of course), except - instead of like 'low-income housing vs a financial district', it was more 'giant pockets of unhoused people with seemingly no access to resources vs a bunch of very meticulously maintained single family homes/a public school that was converted into a rooftop bar and event space'... And I literally don't know how a television sketch show would lead to that?
@CaseyBlizzard
@CaseyBlizzard 11 ай бұрын
@@NotHeresrslyI think they’re talking about the huge influx of people who moved to Portland in the wake of the show (and also a big New York Times article about Portland). Housing prices shot way up. a lot of us couldn’t afford rent in our neighborhoods anymore. Pushed way out from the river. Everything became more crowded, more traffic, long lines. People liked Portland before because it was sleepy and affordable, and people had the money and time to focus on their hobbies and interests primarily. It isn’t really that way anymore. (In my opinion)
