I always know Freddie, but then again I've been listening to him since the day after Queen's first album was released in 1973.💙 I guess Marc is as close as is humanly possible, but Freddie had that extra, special God-given quality that's simply inimitable. AND he knew how to use it. His voice had a certain resonance that still, after all these years, can send chills down my spine. It was a heckuva lot of fun watching you debate with yourself though. You did great. I love & appreciate the way you love & appreciate Freddie's voice and really the whole band. 💙

I've been a fan of Queen since I was a teenager in the seventies so I thought I would be able to do this easily, but it was harder than I thought it would be. One reason might be that my hearing is not as good as it used to be. I've also never actually listened to Marc before and he sounds more like Freddie than I thought he would. However I got the same as Tra, four and a half. The middle song, We are the Champions, I thought was Marc but wasn't 100% sure. Well done Traent, you have a great 'ear'!

Perhaps it is because I have listened to Freddie for so long but I found all of these obvious and easy. Marc's voice lacks the grit and vibrato that Freddie has. The tone of Marc' voice actually annoys me. They are similar, no doubt, but they are also very different. Even the phrasing gives it away. No one added colour to a lyric like Freddie.

This was very easy. Freddie uses his full chest voice much more often, Marc is a good singer, but you can easily spot the difference because he uses his softer head voice. Freddie's voice has more vibrato, and he sings much more powerfully because he did not use his mixed voice outside of the studio too often. If you listen to a lot of covers from Marc and Adam Lambert, they often sound very thin in comparison to Freddie, especially on the middle and lower notes. Freddie's voice is much richer and warmer on the middle and lower notes because he was a britone, the added effect of him singing mostly in full chest voice makes it a powerful sounding combination. Marc and Adam are tenors, so their middle to lower range tends to be thin and weak.

A very easy way to tell the two apart if the voices do sound similar in some songs, is this .... Freddie Mercury can go in entire verse of the song without taking a breath and Marc Martel doesn’t. That’s why if you listen to “we will rock you”, you can definitely tell it’s Friday because he sings that whole entire verse without taking that breath.

Jeepster Peepster, and all the rest of the expert wannabes who KNOW how different Marc's and Freddie's voices are, you're just blowing smoke. You may hear a difference in recording quality, from old analog recordings to today's digital ones, but that's about the only difference you can hear. If you think you know more than Roger Taylor, who worked side by side with Freddie for YEARS, I have to call you out on that. "And, of course, we have the fabulous Marc Martel, who has the UNCANNY ability to sound EXACTLY like Freddie, and it really is spooky." "I wanted to avoid some guy impersonating Freddie. The fact that Marc Martel's voice sounds spine-chillingly identical is just a fact of nature. That's his voice. When he sings our songs, it's pretty uncanny. You close your eyes and it's like Freddie is in the room. It's scary." "Quite scary... You close your eyes and you think it's Freddie onstage, and he actually even looks a little bit like him. And, it's not just the one song. It's every song he sings. When we were rehearsing, in Toronto, they were playing Bohemian Rhapsody and I was sitting down writing, trying to work out the set. And I closed my eyes and suddenly got completely spooked out, 'cause I could've sworn it was Freddie. And you know, you have a very fine ear when you do it all your life and it just is absolutely staggering at times. ... He even does the megaphone effect on 'Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon.' It's great. It's quite a joyous thing to see." -Three quotes about Marc Martel, from Roger Taylor, Queen's drummer Note the part of the quote where Roger says, "And you know, you have a very fine ear when you do it all your life..." I rest my case. The expert opinion of Roger Taylor has a bit more credibility than folks who have only heard Freddie's and Marc's voices through cheap speakers (or even expensive ones).

Roger also has hearing loss in both ears. You might not be able to hear the differences in their voices but others obviously can. They really don't sound very alike to me. Never have I thought I'm an expert or know more about music than the great Roger Taylor. But everyone's ears pick up on things differently and when I hear Freddie or Marc sing it's clear who's who. I'm just being honest. If others can't tell the difference that's fine, I'm not going to say they're not a real fan or anything, we're all just different and hear and interpret things in our own way.

Struggled momentarily on one but that's it. I'm also guessing it's in Queen's interest to promote Martell and Roger's comments could be slightly influenced by that.
