For day two of our Devon adventure, we packed up the Triumph Bonneville, panniers and a picnic basket and rode to the south coast. We had plans to visit Dartmouth and Salcombe, but everywhere was so stunning, we didn’t make it because we kept getting distracted!
We initially stopped off by a beautiful secluded spot on the River Avon- completely secluded and the clearest water possible. It was a completely unspoilt area and a great place to stop. I’ve included an exact location below.
After that, we headed for Slapton Sands and Torcross Beach (essentially the same place) and parked up in a car park on the beach (the A379). It’s a huge stretch of white shingle beach that stretches off into the distance with clear water.
It’s a brilliant day trip for motorcyclists and with the tiny country lanes, there’s no better mode of transport than on a motorbike!

I love your enthusiasm for life Freddie! This is what riding bikes was like when I first started biking in the mid 70’s. You didn’t need full leathers and superbikes to enjoy biking. I think people have been conditioned through advertising to believe they need the latest and best so it’s a breath of fresh air watching your adventures with Monika.😊

Yes indeed Chris, I remember that well with my mates, all on Brit Bikes. Back then though the bikers would usually ride in small groups, unlike F + M. Single bikers were mostly only ever seen doing the to and from work ride.

I could tell it was Slapton Sands from the intro. Used to go there often with the children. As I recall it has some military history to it as the Allies planned on using Slapton Sands as a practice for the D-day landings. The great thing about your videos is that while they are, of course about motor cycles, they are also about the lifestyle that owning and riding a bike can bring, and this is what makes you both so watchable, together with your enthusiasm for everything you do, and, of course, Monica laughing at you occasionally from behind the camera.. Incidentally, a nerdy historical note about Slapton Sands: it looked beautiful in your film but it was the location of a major amphibious exercise in WW2 in preparation for D-Day. Sadly, there was a series of major cock-ups resulting in a heavy death toll of mainly American soldiers. The full story will certainly be on the web somewhere if you Google it. Where ever you go, there's history!

Freddie, you are in my territory here, you must get up on the moor. Park the bike and just walk until you cant see anyone or anything but moorland, pitch up and have another picnic. Oh and never sell that bike nor swap it for something fancy, you’ve used that bike with Monica in your travels for some time and its part of the the team, so look after her to. Stay safe good people.

I love this- both points! And I agree- I can't sell the Bonneville and really don't think I ever will- it's a bike for life🙂

Super vid as usual. Slapton Sands .... thanks to the biggest cock up of WW2 there is a very strong sense of poignancy there. The history of it all is readily available online and knowing it brings an acute feeling of sadness for many who visit Slapton. Still a great place to enjoy though. Looking forward to Dartmoor!

Yes, Exercise Tiger 1944, was a tragic event, a hard lesson learned in D-Day preparation.

Hi,just watched your south devon road trip, its ironoic that my mother, born 1928,stepney and my farther born 1927,ilford used to ride down to south devon in the late 40,s early 50,s on an AJS 350 and stay at greenway farm. They moved to Brixham in 1957 where i was born. A 70,s dude, myself and a few other 'lads' where 60ish now regulary ride from Paignton pier to Plymouth via the Kingswear ferry to Dartmouth and on to said destination on our 70,s japanese bikes. You missed the sherman tank war memoril at slapton and the superb blackpool sands, however we forgive you being a city dweller, next time give us a shout.

Nice video. The UK has some beautiful beaches around it's shores from Devon and Cornwall Slapton Sands and Salcombe, South and North Wales, Brancaster in Norfolk, Morecambe Bay up to the West coast of Scotland Sanna Point out to the Outer Hebrides. You are very engaging as a presenter. Are you going to Tenerife for 6 months to escape the UK winter?

Hey Freddie, I see you're partnered with Hepco and Becker - See if you can review or try out the Xplorer panniers - I want to know what they're like on a modern classic. They're so expensive I want to know more about them before I'd commit to buying them. Loving your work mate !
