Freddy Fender's my great uncle, my mother has told me so many stories of her uncle Freddy coming over back in the day while she grew up and having dinner all together at the house. And I've always seen a lot my grandpa's face in myself so seeing his brother here is remarkable. I'm 25 now and and I was just a baby when he saw me but I'm glad I can still cherish his music at least and I'm thankful there's so many out there still cherishing his work of music too.

He had to be pushed into singing it in Spanish. "There are millions of Spanish music buyers...it will increase the sales triple." And, it did. Well done Freddy

How in the world did 3,621 people (as of this writing) give this a thumbs down? Freddy Fender had one of the greatest voices of all time. Very few artists have ever been capable of putting the amount of emotion into a song as Freddy. George Jones, Marty Robbins, Hank Williams Sr., Merle Haggard, and Lefty Frizzell are the only artists that immediately come to mind. I'd say that's some pretty darn good company.

Those of you that know me and remember my Dad would be suprised to know my Dad was a big Country Western Music Fan and in the early 70s when this was a big hit it often came on the radio in our car on family trips my Dad was a pretty decent Singer and loved this song despite being of Italian heritage and not being formally taught in Spanish he could sing along and. hit all the Spanish parts perfect ! in those days My Dad would sing it to my Mom in the Cars he would be driving as my Father liked having quality Stereo Sound in his Cars !

In remembrance of my Uncle Bobby I would go visit every summer and listen to Freddy Fender with sometimes we would dance I was just a young girl. My Uncle Bobby passed away last year it was so sad so everytime I hear Greddy Fender it makes me cry .What an awesome singer. My Uncle would sing in both versions the spanish and english and it taught me to when I was a young girl.

Freddy almost did one of my songs, but lost a son and most of his gear in the mid-80s. His wife and Freddy called me, but things when they go bad go bad, and the Fenders were living at a friends in Corpus Christi back then. ... I just found a demo the other day hand made by the Texas Tornadoes and smiled because I knew that gig came along and helped him and his family a lot from years of hardship.

Freddy didn't move an inch from where he stood. Freddy sang clearly. Freddy didn't use autotune. Freddy didn't lip sync. Freddy can sing and play and write music. Freddy isn't mostly naked on stage. Freddy didn't have dancers behind him gyrating and showing their butts. Freddy was a great singer and is missed many years after his death. On the other hand, Kanye is an idiot.

April Just so happens April that many of Freddy's fans have Old Heimers. Not Freddy's fault though. : ?> I might be getting it soon. Sometimes my hand just starts shaking and I can't stop it. I usually feel better after a quick trip to the bathroom though. : -)

El Beebop Kid. That's how he was first known in our small town of San Benito TX. My father went to school with him. He got his name from his favorite brand of guitar, Fender. He is a loved and treasured artist. He will be severely missed.

Oh, Freddy . . . the world may not miss you, but the world may not know what "genuine" means. Jesus, I love this stuff . . . and he did the same "live" at the National Date Festival each balmy February night here in the Coachella Valley. He always dragged in big crowds, for this kind of wonderful, sincere, soulful stuff. He was UNIQUE! RIP, Freddy, I love you!

Fantastic entertainer !! One of my favorite songs is The Border. He also was my father in law and mother in law's favorite singer. They had his music played at their wedding. Both of them were older and went through a lot of strife in life. Everytime they played his music they danced together !!

I often wonder if music can bring us together as a people in this country, when so much else fails. I remember how we white kids embraced Motown and soul music in the Sixties. And I remember Freddie and Charley Pride, both iconic country music figures who were not, well, white. Not seeing any like that these days in the country world, and they need to be there, to let the white folk who favor country know it isn't just THEIR music. It is the music of all in our great nation. And this song is one of the most moving country songs ever. Gracias, Freddy. Si, se puede.

Why not cultural appreciation? I mean, we white folk love the music. Motown, Banda, Rap, Hip Hop. You name it. Are we to be told we cannot enjoy it because we are not in the "right" group? Does anyone know here where that goes? Racial war. Genocide. We DO NOT WANT THAT. Or at least most of us not Trump supporters do not. We are the great country we are BECAUSE of immigrants. Stop them, and see us decline.
@67bg707 жыл бұрын
Wow. Huge leap there. NO, did not mean that at all. Meant we have been enriched by those different from folks like, well, me. Being I am a WASP, with roots here going back well before the Revolution, meaning the American one. Part of our greatness as a nation is our unique embrace of so many different peoples and cultures, not without conflict or pain. But there. I only hope that attitude continues to inform who we are as a people. Music is just one manifestation of how that has enriched us.

Lethe River I understand where you're coming from, and it's a lot more rare nowadays, due to the fact that music is so accessible. music is so easy to get and waste that people don't stick to much, but if you go into the any underground in any country, you'll find people with countless music interest. my friend from tijuana just recently sold a mambo record to someone in Japan, and I know of this son, salsa, vallenato blog that is ran by this dude in Belgium. The music still unites all types of ethnicities and cultures, unfortunately you just gotta dig deeper for these nerds.
