I was so excited about the bicentennial. I was nine years old and I would watch all the specials about America’s birthday. I’ve used to remember watching the bicentennial minutes on television, and my grandmother even made a colonial uniform for me that I wore at the Fourth of July parade.

The great thing about the bicentennial is it was both a national celebration and a huge local celebration with town parades… almost like Xmas in July with summer fun replacing gift giving… if I recall the hype started in 1975 with all kinds of commercials, planning ahead, etc… It was a fabulous summer and I was only 5

Thin Lizzy? Really??? AWESOME!!! Midway I didn't get to see until it hit TV. That pan and scan version was criminal. Thank goodness cable came to the rescue. That FLEX shampoo add is pure disco. It was stuff like that that made WRIF 101.1 create D.R.E.A.D. (Detroit Rockers Engaged in the Abolishment of Disco). I got my card pretty early. Sold it on eBay 20 years ago (smacks myself upside the dome). Logan's Run is another one pan and scanned on TV. Jenny Agutter....oh my so very pretty AND a terrific actress. Never cared for The Omen, even though it has Gregory Peck and Lee Remick in it. Jose Wales rated PG? I don't believe it. Tales of Mystery and Imagination. First album from the Alan Parsons Project. First heard in 1977 7th grade English class. Mrs. Hubbard was pretty hip. I just listened to it yesterday (no lie). Never gets old. That was a great month in a so-so year, for me. Good stuff Fred.

Thanks for this one, Fred. Simply one of the happiest months of my life. Summer vacation was well underway - and my family visited Hilton Head Island for the first time - which was peaceful and quiet in those days …. a perfect beach vacation. Anytime I hear Wings’ “Silly Love Songs” I’m reminded of that trip, as we heard it on the radio whole way down and throughout our stay. The other one often heard was indeed “Afternoon Delight” .. lol. And yeah I had those issues of Ghost Rider and Spidey (with another awesome Romita cover). What a wonderful time with my family all alive, well and happy.

I wonder... how many the seeds were planted yesteryear - in our "wonder years" - contributed to the insanity that we see today in our world? As kids growing up in the 50s-80s, we were bombarded with all sorts of entertainment and commercials for the good life. Go back 100 years and our wonder years would look like science fiction crazy, the way he works looks to many of us today. So, I'm nostalgic about my past, but I wonder what we've helped to create today?

Great job, Fred! 1:20 - Michael mentions that the Jacksons' new series would feature comedy. I read somewhere that he said he didn't like doing comedy because he didn't think he was funny. I thought they looked pretty good on Carol Burnett's show for a comedy sketch though, where she played a music teacher. Since Michael's not the youngest of the 5 (his brother, Randy, is) I guess an older brother, maybe Jermaine, sat out the series. 1:48 - This was the divorced Sonny & Cher, who figured they still needed each other though they were no longer married. 2:44 - Oh, yes! This is the year when CB Radios were a huge fad. My family members, at least those of us moving to a new state later that year, all got CB handles, and the radio helped us stay in contact in 2 separate cars. 3:50 - I remember seeing "Murder by Death" in school when I was in 7th grade. It was a lot of fun. 12:12 - I still remember "...and we haylped!" after all these years. I think the family was from somewhere in Florida. 13:13 - There was a Grand Union in my Upstate NY hometown, and I worked at a different one nearby when I was in college.

7:41 1964 election. If Goldwater had won, Vietnam would not have blown up into the monster it became. For some reason LBJ took a small conflict that had been going on forever and in the name of "democracy" decided to end a few million lives. 58,000 of them were American soldiers who were 18-21 on average, most of them drafted. JFK had started small operations and sent advisors, LBJ started a war.

The month I graduated high school! Not the best time for popular culture, that’s for sure. I could have sworn the song MOONLIGHT FEELS RIGHT was a hit later that summer and not as early as June? You could have included the now semi-cult film LIFEGUARD into the mix. About a guy approaching an early mid-life crisis and what direction to take, it actually had a lot to say to me the month I turned 18 and just graduated high school. And now today I turn 66! @@StudioZ7 I hit the mute button and started skipping through the rest of the video before I got to that point. But I swear the radio played "Afternoon Delight" every 15 minutes back in 1976. And I grew to hate "The Boys Are Back In Town" because it gets a lot of air play on classic rock stations, and it sounds like a song sung by a sycophant to a group of punks who peaked in high school.

"The Boys are Back in Town" IMO was a good song, though my favorite off the album is "Emerald". And "Afternoon Delight"? The best song about having a nooner? :)

That was before he went nuts, tried to look like Diana Ross, lost his nose and became a white guy hiding from the world, married Lisa Marie Pressley and serving Jesus juice.

June 76 was one of the worst months of my life. I was 15 and about to go on a couple of serious cross-country crime sprees. Spent the next couple years locked up in the toughest place my state had to offer.
