If you look at the wonder wand loop antenna it's just an L match with a loop of wire and it works. It would be interesting to compare your loop with an ATU and a loop of wire.

You had a little bit of success with that loop antenna, Fred. It has its uses for sure. You cannot beat that price. Nothing wagered, nothing gained. The receive is probably the best feature of ths setup

Hi Andy. Yes your correct. Without a smaller coupler loop this one is quite inefficient. However it could be a great receiving antenna.

Hi Fred. I'm only familiar with magnetic loop antennas that have the large loop, one capacitor, and a smaller coupling loop. The size and shape of the coupling loop, along with the distance from the big loop make a world of difference in how the antenna performs. The tiny capacitors that I saw when you opened the box up briefly are the kind you'd find in a small radio receiver and as you suspected, 20 watts would be tough to do without zapping out the capacitors and possible damaging your radio. I once bought a loop antenna from MFJ which operated the same way yours does (2 capacitors and just some wire to form a loop) and never got any satisfying results from it. The capacitors were much larger, thus allowing more input power, but if I couldn't hear much, I'm not sure what good that did. I went for the conventional magnetic loop and have had wonderful results. Because a lot of the noise the usual antenna picks up is man-made electrical noise, it's not picked up by the mag loop due to the fact it's only using the magnetic waves. It's also directional and the one you were using should be directional as well. Perhaps you didn't have the loop pointed towards the station that was listening for you. Going back to the mag loop I'm using, it's currently indoors and I typically run 5-15 watts (SSB) to it, with very good results. Locally, I get between 5-10 miles (depending on how noisy the band conditions are) and usually when I ask them for a signal report, I get the same S-unit from them as I received from their station). I work skip from the antenna indoors as well, which is mounted on a photo tripod and about 1 meter from the floor with a 1.5:1 SWR reading. At some point I'll put a vertical antenna outside the house, but may use the mag loop as a receive antenna due to its ability to achieve a lower noise floor. I'm actually doing something like that now. I bought one of those MLA-30 loop antennas off Amazon when it was on sale last year for about $30. There's no tuning involved, just a small box that that requires 5v to power an amplifier inside. It saves a LOT of time (and capacitor knob tuning) when trying to figure out whether a band is active or not. I won't use the word "enjoyed", but I certainly felt your misery, as it was much like what I experienced from the MFJ unit. But now I'll use that word, and say that I always "enjoy" your videos... 👍

with fm you want line of sight and nothing blocking your signal! the higher the better! and if you wanna cut down on noise place around 6 inches of ferrite chokes at each end of the coax.

"Line of sight" is how VHF and above frequencies behave, regardless of mode, FM, AM, SSB etc. 27MHz is at the top of the HF bands close to VHF but still with a little bit of groundwave and long-range skip when the conditions are right.

Hi. Thats a shame about Charlie Tango. I know they had some issues. TBH most people simply make one up. Use 26 prefix for UK so it for example my location St Albans could 26/ST123. Noise is a real issue. There is no real quick fix. SSB normally has less than AM and FM. A used HF radio with filtering like DSP can really help.

Hi. Thats a very tough question and all HF radios are more complicated than the 6900. Most newer radios feature a touch screen which I am not sure if that makes them easier to use and does have small text etc. I have a Yaesu 450D which has a very clear white on black display. Some of the text on the buttons are small though. You can see it in this video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/it59aL2Cpr_co4k.html

Can you be more careful about where you place the camera! It would be best to move it forward about 3ft as the current position means you are constantly covering the lens with your hand and fingers. It is similar to how old people take photos, they cover the lens with part of their hand or finger and forget we can't see through them. Any solid object nearer to the lens will block what you are trying to film. There are lots of beginner videos for youtube people so they can make good videos and it explains all of this and other common mistakes, plus how to check before posting in order to correct the videos. The other common mistake people make when filming is to keep pointing at what they are filming and waving their hands about in front of it. We know what you are filming as that is what you are showing us! There is a channel that performs hoaxes quite often and they do things to see who really watches them and how fast something they do will spread to other videos. One was exactly this - they deliberately covered up the camera with hands and fingers and waited to see who copied them. They also did one in which they deliberately left a camera on auto focus and kept moving it to slow the focus change, suddenly everyone started copying this too and they had a good laugh about it. There is some league table about how long it takes people to copy and how many things they copy. there was a car seller in Wales, UK, that was found copying saabkyle04 word for word for example! People expect more from youtube videos now, so covering lenses with fingers and waving hands to block the camera is poor.
@Bond2025
@Bond2025 5 ай бұрын
Don't put your fingers in front of the camera to block the lens, don't keep waving your hands and fingers about in front of the camera lens to block it, don't keep tapping on things and blocking the camera lens with your finger and hand, check your videos before posting and it will allow you to correct the continual errors you are making that make the video appear quite childish in terms of presentation. At least you saved people from buying what you have described as a useless product!
