Hi all. Just a quick video about a cheap or free alternative to doing the 5th shock mod on your Lunchbox or Midnight Pumpkin. Many thanks for watching. Please like and comment :-)

Great little lunchbox tips video Pete! Those little springs that Tamiya supplies are totally useless, they are way too thin, and like you say just snap in no time! The 5th shock mod always works well, no one likes a wobbly slappy rear end eh mate? 😂 I've not tried the cable tie method, may well give that a go next time I build another CWO1. Back in the eighties I actually mounted a fairly compressed spring in an upright position inside each of the triangular plastic thingies that the gearbox axle mounts into each side .... It still works to this very day! Hope you're enjoying your Weekend beer, on what's turning out to be yet another wet and windy Sunday! 👍 👍 👍

Yeah the good thing about this fix is that it works pretty well and it's pretty much free. I'm trying to picture the mod that you are describing but I can't quite imagine it 🤔 Obviously a good fix if it still works. Oh yes beer has certainly helped to get through a wet weekend! Hope you've found enough indoor tasks to do too. Cheers for your great support as ever 😁👍👍

@@PeteWylieRC No such luck mate, outside 'trying' to work.... and getting very wet! But, I have got a nice strong ale on the go!! The springs I used were only small..... maybe just over 1. 5 cm tall, they sit inside the triangular plastic thingies with the gearbox axle stubs at their Base, meaning as the axle goes upwards they compress within the housing! Bit hard to explain, but may do a video on it sometime perhaps. The key to this mod is getting the right tension of spring.... this is where having a father who is an engineer with a fully stocked workshop came in handy! 😉 Will certainly be trying the tie wrap idea next time though mate. Isn't it mad that a 37 year old design of RC car is still as popular with us all today as it was back then despite all the modern highly advanced stuff available?!! Long live vannessas bouncy box! 😂 👍 👍 👍

Cool I tried everything but for me and all my testing I the simple fishing string mod worked the best on all the hopper style chassis but like you said nothings really going to stop the hop! Fishing string mod cheap and easy you should try it!

Hiya Steve. Oh yeah I remember your fishing line fix but I've never tried it. Probably because I don't go fishing so it's not something I have around the house. Yes I'm not sure if anything will stop the bounce in these. Many thanks indeed for watching and your great feedback. Best wishes to you 😁👍

The trick to stop those little springs from snapping is to not do the screw and washer holding them in up too tightly. Make sure theres some space for it to move.
@PeteWylieRC8 ай бұрын
Ah right I haven't actually tried using those springs on a Lunchbox build since they broke quickly on the first one. It's possible that they were pinched too tightly. Many thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated 😁👍
@carnivorouslee8 ай бұрын
@@PeteWylieRC another trick is to use those brass tube things like the ones you use when fitting CVA dampers, they give enough space so they don’t snap. Basically what happens is when you tighten the screw up fully it stops the actual spring part moving, so when the gearbox moves up it puts all the pressure on the long part and it snaps.

Brilliant work Pete! I have the brace and have been thinking a 5th shock would be better. Now I know how!! Thanks buddy 🙌🏻

Hiya Craig. Yeah I think that the 5th shock mod is the best but with the Lunchbox nothing makes a vast difference. The cable tie mod is pretty good really. Cheers for watching mate 😁👍👍

Great tips for boing it in several different ways! Free is always nice too! Lunchies are fun no matter what but a better handling one is a more funner one! LOL!!

Hiya Addam. Yeah it's good to have an almost free solution if you don't want to spend cash on extra shocks and all that. Many thanks indeed for watching and your great feedback. Best wishes to you 😁👍

Very handy tip Pete. Thank you. One of my CW-01 chassis has the 3D printed brace mod. This could be the option for the others 👍🏼👍🏼

Hey Pete, great tip mate, how come I didn't think of that?!?! 😅😅 Any little improvement that doesn't really cost anything is certainly worth knowing about. I love videos like this that share the knowledge, great work my friend! Have a beer on me! 🍺😁👌😎🍺👍

Hiya mate. Yeah this is certainly the easiest mod for this particular problem with the Lunchbox. To be honest I thought it was too small of a fix to make a video about but I haven't done much else this week due to the weather so this is all I had! This is the Lunchbox kit that Pete Smith got me with the Sticker Licker set. I did that body ages ago but hadn't built up the truck until now. I've not got 4 CW-01's which might seem like a lot but still nowhere near Mr. Smith! Cheers for watching mate. Best wishes 😁👍👍

I used the 3d printed "stopper" which, with the oil damper upgrades works well. I am curious about trying the 5th shock mod too.. Cheers

Yeah I've done various things on the Lunchboxes I've owned and I think that the 5th shock mod is best but like I say in the video, it's still a bouncy truck. Many thanks for watching 😁👍

The springs that come with it are rubbish, I think I lost one on the first run. I prefer the brace method to the 5th shock, but I have seen the cable tie thing work well for a Mad Bull. It would be hard to test 5th shock vs brace....but could be fun to try
@PeteWylieRC7 ай бұрын
Yeah I didn't have much joy with those little springs that come in the kit. Ooh I'm sure that there's a nerdy video that can be done to compare all the different Lunchbox suspension setups. We all love a nerdy RC video! Many thanks indeed for watching. Best wishes to you guys 😁👍
