Every homemaker needs an apron, and it helps if it's extra comfortable and customized. After being disappointed constantly with store bought aprons I designed my own pattern and method. I often use upcycle fabrics for my aprons, so I don't mind when they get messy.

Great how to video. Your voice is easy to listen to. I have been sewing for 20 years and have never seen how to gather the waist line like you did. So much easier than my way. Great teacher and wonderful video. I will be making an apron from this video. Thank you.

Thank you so much! I love my gathering method - I can't even remember now where I learned it. But I'm happy to pass it along to others. I hope your apron turns out great. 🥰

I love wearing aprons. I’m going to have to look at the thrift shops for some vintage fabric. Thanks for the gathering tip. I have never seen it done that way

“Seam ripper for any mistakes”! Does anyone else buy seam rippers by the multi pack…..Well apparently I make a lot of mistakes, I have to buy seam rippers by the multi pack! They get dull quickly! Great teaching video!

I don't use a seam ripper. Instead I use an old scalpel because you can just change the blade.

@@Mrs_Homemaker I can’t get my machine to gather. I have a baby lock ellure. Start with long tail set stitch length to 5.0 but when I start to sew it defaults to 4.0. Tension is on auto width is on 0.0. I’m holding my fingers down on the top thread like you show. It makes a long length stitch but no gathering. Any ideas. Thank you 😊

Do you recommend washing material first to avoid shrinking thanks & beautiful material where do you find it / easy instructions 🌹
@Mrs_Homemaker
@Mrs_Homemaker 9 ай бұрын
Yes I always suggest washing fabric before sewing it up - there are a few exceptions (like some forms of quilting or items that will never be washed). I get most of my fabric for things like aprons from thrift stores. Sheets, table cloths, and curtains are all good sources. Try to find fabrics that seem like mostly cotton for aprons so that they hold up well.

Great video. Just the apron I want to make! I was fascinated with your dress form. It appears to be a replica of your body. Did you buy it or make it yourself? In other words, where can I get one ?
@Mrs_Homemaker
@Mrs_Homemaker 9 ай бұрын
I made it! I got a form off Facebook marketplace but it wasn't even close to my size. I used quilt batting and an old bra of mine and some other bits of padding and filled it out to my measurements. Then I sewed a simple stretch cover. That's it! It does take some fiddling and measuring and remeasuring to be sure you have everything correct but it's worth it to me. And it's adjustable - I can add or take away as needed. (I pinned the additions on to the old form as needed, but the quilt batting sort of sticks to itself as well once you get going)

I bought a cheap old mannequin off Facebook marketplace and then padded it up to be my size with quilt batting and fabric (and an old bra). Then I made a simple stretch cover for her.

Would there be a children apron pattern avaiable?
@Mrs_Homemaker
@Mrs_Homemaker 5 ай бұрын
I dont plan to make a children's pattern - mostly bc they grow so fast and I would need to make many sizes! But if you measure the front of their chest where the front of the apron would sit, you can use that measurement (plus seam allowance) for the front bib. Do the waist circumference for the width of the apron skirt (and the length would be from their waist to the knee). Then measure from the front shoulder to the back waist for the shoulder straps (plus about four inches) and waist x2 for the waist ties. I hope that makes sense! The directions would stay the same, you would just downsize the pieces.

How many yards would u say you need for this apron
@Mrs_Homemaker
@Mrs_Homemaker 9 ай бұрын
I would say two yards should be sufficient. Since I almost always make these from thrifted items (like table cloths) I often don't have exact yardage.

I don't. Since it is all rectangles I just provide the measurements. 🥰 saves paper! You could always measure it out on paper though and use that.
