I went out exploring the dams and sights along the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington and found some of the best free camping in Washington. The scenery was spectacular, the hiking was amazing and the boondocking was even better.

MORE ABOUT THIS EPISODE
There's a lot to see and do Along Washington Highway 14 (also known as the Lewis and Clark Highway). I hiked up the trail at Beacon Rock State Park to get a panoramic view of the entire valley and spotted the Bonneville Dam in the distance.
The best part of my visit to the Bonneville Dam was checking out the fish ladders and watching salmon swim through. I also visited Hood River, The Dalles Dam, John Day Dam, and Washington's version of Stonehenge, before scouting out some future boondocking spots near the John Day Dam. Melissa and I will definitely be returning there to do more exploring and camping along the river.

There are no Sealions at John Day Dam. They are hazing the birds from eating juvenile salmon and steelhead. Great video and song.

RVwithTito I use google maps. It has a feature that you can "save" a place and it will actually add a star to my main google map. So once we are around the Columbia River, I'll easily see certain spots that interest me from this video or wherever I found them, when I open up and use it. It's an easy reminder without me have to keep track of it other ways. You can also make "custom" maps in "my maps".

Phantom Rider Thanks!! The coffee pot is just an old-style percolator for espresso you can probably find at a kitchen store. There are various sizes here on Amazon: bit.ly/rvwt-coffee-pot. Sean Clevenger Yes. It was fun and I lucked on weather too. Stumbling on the boondocking site was just that. I saw all of these RVs and campers along the river near the John Day dam. Most of the folks were there for the fishing. I knew it was managed by the Army Corps of Engineers so I drove through, found a good spot and claimed it. Are you "allowed" to say where this is?? I'm thinking early October. I want to test my solar with the EF Delta. BTW, the solar to EF Delta charge puts out a huge RFI on the HF ham bands. Nasty it is. This was a test at home in backyard kinda close to the antenna so will check when camping. Also, did you show a segment on erecting flexable solar panels at a 45 degree angle in the field, NOT attached to the r/v?

As a child I lived at the base of Beacon Rock. The park ranger and his family ere family friends. The rock was my Jungle Jim. The trout streams, horse trails and State Park were my playground. My dad was a marine biologist with the fish passage program so I spent quite a bit of time inside Bonneville Dam as a kid. The locals always referred to the whole area simply, as Gods Country and at that time, Sasquatch was just another animal in the forest. Beautiful place. Just for the record...those sea dogs could really give a rats ass about those noise makers. They are far to smart for such nonsense.

@@isaiahgoudy8379 Thanks for the clarification. In either case if it helps the salmon population it's a good thing.

You should get better educated about the sealions and the salmon runs. They do amazing damage. On top of - if the damns where not there to bottle the salmon up, they wouldn't be eating just the meaty parts and killing way more than they really eat. You make a joke of a serious issue. Hence the fish and wildlife crews trying to drive them away. Started out an interesting vid. Until you closed it with a (song) on something you didn't bother to do the work on to know the facts. Wolf eating all the chickens and it's an amusing song. Not! Shame your not presenting anything but an amusing (to some like yourself) view. Do the work, present the facts. Then your song would be: Where have all the salmon I loved eating gone! Oh yeah, those funny sealions ate them.

You're correct. Just having a little fun. I'm very much aware of the issues and challenges having worked in NW Salmon Recovery for many years.
