Yayyyy..........!!! I did this lab on my own. I struggled a bit becuase I forgot to add two routes on R2 as well apart from configuring floating static routes on R1 and R3. I thought I have given them the alternate in case gigabit ethernet link fails (I shut it down to check if ping was following the alternate static route but it dint't and then I realized maybe it is Router 2 who is not sending these packets, and indeed it was R2. I had to specificy ipv6 route in R2. Thank you so much for putting such a huge time and energy to create these labs.

Hahaha... A teacher is always a teacher. I didn't use config /all command on pc to be able to copy ipv6 address that was generated via SLAAC. I opened both PC's and manually entered ipv6 address of one pc on the other to be able to ping it but I thought for a moment, Jeremy will definitely going to have a shortcut for that, and you had it, indeed. 😂😍

Just want to point out to anyone wondering that specifying the link-local addresses for the Serial interfaces in the static routes was not necessary, as they are serial interfaces. I'm sure Jeremy did this just to enforce the idea that this is something you normally need to do, as most all interfaces using Ipv6 in the real world are gonna be some sort of ethernet.

@3:15 So hosts will automatically use NDP RA messages from the router to set their default gateway, and to generate a link local address for themselves. hi Jeremy, in configurating the static route between R1-R2, R3-R2, why must the next hop also be specified after setting the exit interface? Given that they are connected with a serial cable , a directly connected static route should work (in fact directly connected setting failed when I tried it in packet tracer).

Question: In the previous video you said the RA teaches the host what network prefix to use. Now at 2:20, when PC1 uses SLAAC to send RS messages to R1, I now understand the RA includes both of R1's link-local and global unicast addresses. So why does the host set its default gateway as the router's link-local address? Does the router's link-local address take precedence over its global unicast address in SLAAC?

You can see that the link local address of those serials are based on R2's g0/0 MAC. Serial interfaces don't have a MAC address, the router has to use something else that is likely to be unique. It might for example take a random number, the MAC address of a different interface, it's serial number etc. So if it has multiple interfaces that don't have their own MAC address it is perfectly normal to reuse the same interface identifier on all of them. You can see that this is the case by inspecting the config tab on R2 and looking on s0/0/0, s0/0/1 and g0/0

only if you want the route to be a backup. Keep in mind if you don't, the router will load balance traffic over both routes as they have the same priority. The router does not factor in interface speed, hops, or any other metric when using static routes, so the only way to force the router to use the ethernet link would be to specify the AD value of the backup route.
