This is a fantastic program for anyone in Pre Med or technical programs. I wish these were around when I went to college and graduated with a fair amount of student loans.

Same here! I wish this was in place for my undergrad degree as well!! It would have provided a tremendous amount of freedom in pursuing jobs after college, rather than worrying about student loan payments kicking in 6 months after graduation.

It looks like the deadline has passed for this year. I’m a military spouse and husband is retiring and will be buying a house in NY by December .He’s a Ny resident, am I qualified? Is there an option for the military families ?

The application on their website say spring 2021. Do I apply to that one even tho my first semester of college is gonna be fall of 2021. And do you know when the fall application opens?

Thanks for the comment! I recommend following up with the admissions counselor at the school you are interested in attending. They will have up to date information on the process specific to that school. My past experience with admission counselors at the schools I have attended have been great. Best of luck!

It' not really free. I don't qualify for FAFSA and Tap because of my family's income. I still need to pay roughly $3k a year even after the Excelsior Scholarship. Then there are expenses for books and supplies, metro cards, and other expenses.

Thank you for the comment! Correct, the program will not cover 100% of all expenses. But, it does cover a large percentage. Have you looked at additional options on top of the excelsior scholarship?

There are additional resources for potential scholarships and grants on Fastweb.com and Niche.com. But, make sure the scholarships are not for tuition only, because then it will deduct from the your excelsior scholarship and you will still have the additional expenses.

Can I get a scholarship from Cuny or suny colleges as an international student? Or is it easier to get scholarship from private colleges?

Thank you for the comment! The scholarship mentioned in the video is geared towards state residents. Some Schools will have scholarship opportunities, but they will vary by specific school. A good source would be either the financial aid or admissions offices for those specific awards. Thanks again for the comment.

Thanks for the comment. Short answer is.. possibly. I’ll provide a link. If you finished you associates degree you can apply to finish up your 4 year degree. But, in saying this, please confirm with your college admission counselor that you do indeed meet the requirements. Because, the final determination looks to be the school itself. Best of luck!!! Thanks for the comment! This specific scholarship is for New York State residents. But, that does not mean there are no scholarships for international students. I would expect that international scholarships vary by school. Is there a specific school you plan attending?

BEWARE. This is a horrible scholarship that traps low income students. Incase you don't know what 15 credits is per semester, it's ALOT. If you're not an A student do not accept scholarship. Unless you know exactly what your course sequence will be for the next 2 - 4 years (you don't), do not accept the scholarship. Unless you have family to support you incase you are dropped from the scholarship, do not accept it. Any misstep will leave you with a semesters worth of debt. If you do not pay it off immediately, you can not sign up for more classes regardless of financial aid. It's a truly horrible program.

@@jc8198 it’s a lot if you’re a low income students who HAS to work. It also varies on what degree you’re taking.
