Awesomely helpful! Thank you: I've been hesitating to quilt back over the little curved portion at the top edge of each branch of the feather, but realize it looks good and will give me a better feather. Chocolate with almonds ALWAYS helps!

Karen, thank you for this great tutorial. I have the same machine and am batteling tension. What do you have your upper dial set at, and have you changed the bobbin tension? Thanks, Mary
@karenmiller9629
@karenmiller9629 8 жыл бұрын
+Mary Couch Great question Mary -- On the Horizon (7700) I need to set the top tension up to 5-6 when I FMQ with Aurifil 50Wt in top and bobbin. I do not use the special Janome bobbin casing for FMQ and I haven't needed to adjust my bobbin tension. I wrote a FMQ basics post about a year ago that shows my general setup -- here is the link: karensquiltscrowscardinals.blogspot.com/2014/06/do-you-fmq-process.html Are you dropping your feed dogs ? Are you getting eyelashes on the back ? Would love to help if I can...

+ghadia oscar Thank you -- I am working on my home machine and I have a Supreme Slider (teflon sheet) on the machine bed. So when I rotate my quilt sandwhich the Supreme Slider helps the fabric glide to move easily. YOu can see my "setup" information in this blog post: karensquiltscrowscardinals.blogspot.com/2016/02/2016-free-motion-quilt-along-part-iii.html

Karen, it seems to me that your machine is moving, rather than the fabric. Are you using a domestic machine? Could you please explain how you've done this?
@karenmiller9629
@karenmiller9629 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy -- it seems like this in the video because there is no frame of reference to compare the fabric to. I am stitching on my home sewing machine, the Janome Horizon 7700 but because I don't show the machine it's hard to see that I'm actually moving the fabric under the needle. I hope this helps...

Mai - thank you -- I always use a Superior Titanium Coated Top Stitch Needle -- for this weight thread an 80 or 90 eye would be fine. Let me know if you have any questions. @Marco mama -- I've been stitching feathers for a few years now, probably about 7 ? Each year, each month, each week, each day they change and improve. Keep on stitching -- it's the key!! Thanks for the comment

+anna marie smith Anna - When working with any marking pen I would always test the product first. Sometimes the purple markers are hard to remove, although I've not had any problems when using the Clover Eraser Pen. It's always best to test first though -- good question. Thank you!

+Mary Couch Checking in to see how your tension issues are coming along. Normally when someone has eyelashes and they are on curves or areas where you are changing direction I would suggest that you slow down your hand movement and/or speed up the machine speed. If you get eyelashes even on straight stitches then adjust your upper tension up. I hope this helps.
