I've been trying the Juki 2200 Mini at work...and love it so much I just bought one! Basically the same machine as the 2010, but with extra accessories and 2mm extra foot height clearance using the presser foot lever. Also discovered the Janome Universal Table 2 with the 6700p machine insert fits the Juki perfectly...so my new baby now has it's own dedicated home. I already own LED lights so they'll be going on her as the lighting isn't great on this machine.

You mention dropping the feed dogs and turning the stitch length down to zero. Since the stitch length adjustment actual only affects the amount the feed dogs move, not anything to do with the needle, there is no need to do both. If you don't drop the feed dogs then it makes sense to turn the stitch length down to zero as this means the feed dogs do not actually attempt to move the fabric.

Oh, sorry to bug you again, but I've had this question for a while. I'm catching up on our monthly CGQC projects and on one of them you mention speeding up and slowing down your machine. I have an ancient, very basic Bernina 1090S and I don't think that I have that capability. Thoughts? Am LOVING the August project! Thank you so very much! Will get to posting photos when I figure out how. Think you will be very proud of your diligent student! ~Lynn

Lynn Vaught I go into that a little more in the 2nd video of this series. If you don't have speed control on your machine you will have to control the speed with the amount of pressure you apply to the foot pedal. Hi Vanessa, i love your videos, and i bought the juki TL 2010Q after i watched some of them, i got it tuesday this week, and finally sat down at it last night, only to find that it's not sewing right, the stitches on top look ok but on the bottim they are all puckered up. Lots and lots of twisted threads, I've done all I know to do, is there a secret to fixing this problem? Thanks

I have a mystery! I have been sewing for many years. in the last year or so I have been trying some quilting, more specifically, free motion quilting. I have a pfaff quilt expression 4.2. Have had pfaff machines for many years. My fmq (free motion quilting) challenge initially was getting muscle memory with the different designs. Didn't have many problems as I attributed the bad look to my inexperience with FMQ THEN,,,,, I started having tension problems,,,, and these were not consistent, and I'm not able to say, it was the type of thread, thread weight, brand, or the type of fabric. ??? I was getting pretty good with the shapes and ... again inconsistnt with how the ? tension was working? finally I decided to buy a straight stitch only, machine. I bought a juki TL18. semi industrial machine for quilting (Looks like yours). demo'd at the store with no problems. Got it home, and wha-la, having some of the same issues.....Maybe its my house? lol. I'm about ready to just give up on quilting all together. Am I the only one with problems like this? I have to say as well, My stitches seem to look better on the bobbin side, especially on the Pfaff QE . But the new machine has had, skipped stitches, broken thread. ? tension problems,,,, and I have only had it for 2 days..... Also bought a ruler foot,,,, doesn't do as well as the regular 1/4" foot. I just want to enjoy fmq. very frusturated. Lately I have spent more time with practice sandwiches than actual projects. Hours,,,,,,,,, :-0 not sure anyone can help me. If you have a suggestion,,,, I'm all ears! Really thought I was a pretty good seamstress? re-thinking that Sorry for the lengthy comment. :-(

Hi! I am trying my hand at free motion. I have the Juki t2000qi. I have dropped the feed dogs, put on correct foot and moved foot pressure adjustment all the way to the top. I feel like my fabric sandwich is being drug under the foot like there is not enough space for it to move freely. Any advice is appreciated.

+Barbara OConnor - Vanessa's Juki behind her in the video is (I think) the f600. She has a video on it. Largely because of her video on this Juki, I bought one. Absolutely love it. It has plenty of bells and whistles for me, very versatile and solid. It has great lighting too but I ordered the LED string of lights that Vanessa has in the Free Motion series.

Morning Vanessa, thank you so berry much. I have a Singer Simple machine model 3221/3232; new sewer & quilter. And I'm currently working on a smile enough quilt bag/tote. Been struggling with how I want my stitches to look, so this is very helpful. Most videos I watched you don't get this. Grateful. I'm gonna purchase that extension table, will it fit my machine,? and the lights need those desperately. Is it too late to join the quilt club and do I have to have a PayPal account. Thanks

One more thing 's. Vanessa, when I was young my mom use to make quilts by hand the entire thing. Now that sucker was heavy and warm. When I started quilting I found out the quilt I made was very, very light weight. My question should I use three batting to sandwich it instead of one. My thinking is if I'm gonna make a quilt I want it warm, you know what I mean. So, I guess these are modern day quilts beautiful but light weight. any help I would appreciate. thanks

This is a great informational video. However, I do have a question. I have a retired Janome 415. Granted, it's just a regular machine...but if I wanted to do free motion quilting, could I just get a darning foot or something in order to do that? Or do I need an entirely different sewing machine?
@TheCraftyGemini
@TheCraftyGemini 9 жыл бұрын
Heismyrock3 You should be able to contact the manufacturer and ask what foot you could use on that machine to do free motion quilting. I know people who free motion quilt on vintage Singer sewing machines and even on treadle machines so I'm sure you can do it on yours somehow. I also know several quilters who actually free motion without a presser foot! I don't recommend it because the needle is completely exposed but it can be done!
@JoDidntHearYou

Thanks for the swift response! I looked all over the place (internet only, so far), and couldn't find any extension tables that fit my machine. However, I have heard that a darning foot would do great. There's a cute little mom and pop sewing shop down the street from where I work, so I'll have to stop in and speak with them :) Thanks again!

Someone help!! What should the stitch width be set at. Everyone says something different. I just can;t seem to get this free motion. Material keeps getting hung up. I have feed dogs down. Stitch length at zero. Presser foot tension at zero and the proper free motion foot. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong😢
@TheCraftyGemini
@TheCraftyGemini Жыл бұрын
Stitch width on a straight stitch just changes the needle position. I would keep it at the default setting so the needle is in the center. If the fabric is getting hung up it sounds like you need to move the fabric faster. If you're getting thread build up it sounds like the machine is stitching too much in one spot. So, I would move the quilt faster or slow down the speed your machine is stitching at. Keep at it!

Hey Vanessa, it's MT Lynn. Hope you are having a productive week at MSQC! My question is in regard to this website. I am a subscriber, as I am with the MSQC weekly post, but so far have not received email notifications when you post this series. I have it on my calendar as I don't want to miss one single bit of Vanessaness (WOW- that's a nice sounding word!), but wonder if I should contact Bea so I can automatically receive the Monday email. Also - were you going to cover embroidery on this "channel" too? Thanks much, Lynn
@TheCraftyGemini
@TheCraftyGemini 9 жыл бұрын
Lynn Vaught Hey Lynn! Yes, the embroidery series will be on this channel. To get the individual notifications from this channel you need to select the option. To do so, on this video page you can click a little icon that looks like a gear that is directly below the video title (underneath the video itself). You should see it right under the name of the channel "TheCraftyGemini." When you click on that gear icon you will see a box and you want to check it. It says, "Send me all notifications for this channel." Then that will do it! Hope that helps!
