In the small town of Tabaiba, North-Eastern part of Tenerife, just a short swim away from the shore there is a wreck called the 'El Peñon'. It was sunk as an artificial reef in 2006 to enrich the marine life of the area and to promote diving. The boat is 35 metres long, and it is heeled thirty degrees to starboard at a maximum depth of 32 metres.
On 2 Sep 2021, 3 weeks after I started (and initially failed) my first-ever Freediving training, we went for a fun dive at the wreck 'El Peñon'. It was also my first fun diving experience since I got certified with SSI Freediving level 1 certification.
The whole session was super fun! But I also freaked out a bit as I swam through the wreck. It was deep, and I was too excited and nervous to be relaxed! At some point I felt that I got caught by the wreck (ever so slightly) and that sent my mind crazy! Luckily nothing happened :D
Huge thanks to the best safety diver and cinematographer Nik Škrlec for the awesome session and videos, and dive buddy Dimitri (featured in the video 1:04 - thanks for letting me steal the footage)!
