Hanging by a thin rope under a helicopter, a hundred meters above the ground, but only centimeters from a hundred thousand Volt power line - not many people can or would like to call this their office. One wrong move, one unexpected gust of wind and death comes knocking. Their life insurance: the highest concentration and perfect team play.
Linemen is a highly entertaining cocktail of fascinating imagery, strong characters, and absorbing storylines. The series follows two teams of linemen from different areas over six episodes in their daily work lives - which is anything other than routine: repairing and building high voltage systems high up in the air, preparing for an upcoming task, training for the expected and unexpected, integrating new team members, the relief when an extremely dangerous plan works out....

Its the Overhead Ground wire,, it has Fiber optic inside of the cable
@chrisbloomgren822

That's fiber, it's typically bonded to the structure. If it were conductor The lineman would bond himself and the bird to the line so they're all at the same potential. And obviously not touch the structure and the wire at same time with anything conductive. You pay close attention to your limit of approach and all the equipment your using including your barehand suit. No need to ground and deenergize

@joshk4843
@joshk4843 4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelstollairetbarceo3287 The lines that were being handled in the video are not the HighVoltage lines on the structure. They are static or lightning wires (or a ground or earth or neutral wire). Often on these high structures that are placed at the very top above the energized lines to be hit my lightning and are connected to a wire and/or the steel structure and to the ground to discharge lightning currents to the earth bypassing the rest of the equipment to prevent damage to switching gear, transformers and prevent power outages. These lines under ideal circumstances carry no load. The other lines are hung from strings of insulators because THEY are energized lines and without the insulators they would short out on the steel towers or burn down wooden poles and the system would just never work. Those insulators keep the power in the wire where it belongs. Thats why power lines everywhere overhead are always attached to some grey or brown or glass object and not just tied to poles. (colors may vary)

Trying to be a husband and raise a family on the road is incredibly tough. Hats off to these Real Men. My husband is a Master Electrician. He had to travel for a short while to make ends meet, but by the time our third child came, that was enough. There are other ways to make a living and truly money can't buy back time lost. Having him home every night for dinner and to sleep in our bed is a luxury worth more than anything. He's an incredible Man, husband and Dad. It takes all kinds and our Skilled tradesmen help to make this world turn in more ways than most would realize!!! A huge THANK YOU to all the men out there providing and making it happen.
