His report stated that conditions during slavery destroyed the family structure, and that the racist policies blacks were subject to after slavery prevented them from recovering. Not only was the problem getting worse, he came the conclusion that simply giving black people equal rights wasn’t enough to fix the problem. The solution Moynihan proposed was reparations and a Marshall plan for Black Americans. Because of his stance on reparations, people also thought that Moynihan wanted to give blacks preferential treatment. Many people were uncomfortable with his report and many people would be consider his views racist today. He simply stated the cold hard facts.

I enjoyed this lecture. It’s obvious that Moynihan was correct in his thinking.

I love how Mr. Patterson layed his views out there objectively. It doesn't matter whether you like what he says , facts speak for themselves!

This was a truly riveting talk. Missing that moment has cost us dearly, I just wonder why they killed the report .. who benefitted from that?

The feminists view in this is VOID! The two parent married matriarchal family brings two incomes which causes more stability for children and allows for less POVERTY! Divorce and welfare separate men from children. Speaking on black families, led mothers over 50 years, theres more fatherless families, theres poorer circumstances, theres less viable men, theres more male incarceration and theres more VIOLENCE! Matriarchy and or the non nuclear family has failed! ...I direct you to your nearest black community. These numbers were not so abundant pre 1965.

+Dorian Grey (The Grey Nation) I think you meant to write that the two parent _patriarchal_ family bring two incomes and provide more stability to children. The feminists are Marxist and they are trying to muddy the waters with their weak challenge of the statistics. What they want to claim is that poverty is not correlated to being single mother and that women bear the "unfair" burden of raising children. These arguments muddy the water because there is some "truth" to the statement. Women throughout history always bore the burden of child rearing because men bore the burden of support and protection. Feminist like to take this clear division of labor and turn it into a negative. This is how their rhetoric works. They are also implying that the society is "unfair" to them because they make less then men but the reason for this is that women offer less value in the labor market than men. Women then to work less and less hard. These are facts but feminist argues on emotionalism rather than on truth. Notice that only 5% of women who go to college have illegitimate children however these feminist believe that woman should have access to money and resource _regardless_ of their live choices. Feminism encourage women to engage in sexual promiscuity that leads to pregnancy and they expect _all_ men to pay for their poor choices. What is the feminist solution -- to redistribute even more money from men. With divorce in the Black community at 70%, why would any decent Black man want to get married to a Black women who can use deFamily Court system _at will_ to divorce him of his children and resources. You are right the feminist view is void because any the family arrangement is natural and Marxist from the beginning set out to destroy the family. The reason why the Black family is in such a debased state is that the Marxist ideology was planted in the Black community with the founding of the NAACP in 1909 and followed by feminism in the 1970's. The sexual promiscuity that is encourage by Feminism taught Black women to engage in reckless sexual behavior over marriage and being feminine. Feminism taught Black women to be irresponsible in order to debase the family and to debauch society.

The facts are that even a one income, patriarchal dual-parent gives the child more of a chance. That feminist is going to Hell. She hates marriage, she hates God-given morality and she hates men but she claims to want to help children. SMH. Afro-Americans are not as some sort of vanguard for family forms when our families are distorted and are failing. But this lady could care less about the facts that indicated that patriarchy is superior to anything else for the vast majority of human beings. And I hate how the speaker cowers in front of her to aggressive feminazism instead of reiterating the facts of the matter...MATRIARCHY AIN'T WORKING! I wish the speaker would have said it but the study clearly shows that if you want to help a community you HAVE TO HELP IT'S MALES. YOU HAVE TO ENCOURAGE MARRIAGE and YOU HAVE TO ENCOURAGE PATRIARCHY. Anything else will completely stagnate and retard a community on all levels.

That’s exactly what the feminists want. Destruction.

As one that grew up in the blk community there was not a lack of viable men. There was and still are loads of viable men. When the welfare state kicked in the women made the decision to pick lesser men while adopting feminist doctrine of "I dont need a man". This is prevalent to today. There's 1 piece of evidence that speaks to that and its the marital rates on which the men are married more than the women. Now its spread to other communities and affecting them in the same way. It will not get better due to the social programs in place to fix womens poor decisions.

Infuriating, isn’t it? Despite decades of data accumulation and millions of people being born into societal decay and utter despondency, the feminist is impervious to evidence and simply relies on an emotional response. How many more neighborhoods have to be destroyed before these idiots realize that a patriarchal, 2 parent household provides better societal outcomes ESPECIALLY when concerning the upbringing of males? I suggest she moves in to one of these neighborhoods and reports back on how well single mothers are doing.

Most of the community organizations did more for the organizers than they did for the poor. BINGO! I’m convinced that this is merely a way for government to launder its money via the nonprofit industrial complex.

This is a very compelling report. I guess today presenting these facts in an objective way, Mr. MOYNIHAN WOULD BE CONSIDERED RACIST. THE TRUTH MAKES MANY PEOPLE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. I WONDER DID MOYNIHAN FACTOR IN SELF DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR IN DECLINE OF BLACK FAMILY STRUCTURE , ALTHOUGH HAVING CHILDREN OUT OF WEDLOCK IS HARMFUL TO CHILDREN AND SELF DESTRUCTIVE TO THE FAMILY 😐
