I was a tournament recurve archer in England when I was younger, much younger. My technique is very odd especially on release. The basic technique is there like anything to teach the basics, once you have those down be comfortable and developing your own technique is what makes us unique and better. If everyone shot the same there would no competition. Keep up the great work.

@@Fenrir.Gleipnir She's actually holding the bow with 4 fingers and a thumb, not just one finger. I'll assume you are referring to her ring finger on her left hand. I haven't seen a ring but I'm not looking for one. All I did was pay her a compliment and tell her she's an awesome archer. But my post was really about people who enjoy pointing out other people's errors according to how that person feels the world should go around. I think you just proved my point.

She's not doing anything wrong it's just people thinking there's nobody else out there doing this and there are, in fact there's a lot of people who can shoot circles around her Lajos Kassai for example is a rapid fire archery master, yes master. I learned using his technique. Look him up dude is insanely skilled.

Gosh girl you amaze me every time!! I love archery. I took a 20 year old $100 bow into an archery shop to shoot in the league. That guy just knew he was going to sell me a full rig $600 to 900 worth of equipment. I hadn’t shot in 10 years. I won with low score of all the archers for that entire league. Then a fall on my right shoulder changed everything. Keep shooting! You have a real gift!! I know it is!! God bless!

No such thing as fully instinctive unless you're shooting "from the hip" with no anchor point. You're using the "gap" method which is basically gauging the gap between your point & the target. Not a proper sight but still a visual reference even if you don't realize it. Nothing wrong with that at all; I do it in a slightly different way & hit what I want as well. The important part is you're consistent & you've refined your ability to such a high level. I can't hit by dropping down on a target like that whether I use sights or not but your eyes & body are different. Use what works for you & don't worry about labeling what you do. Most of all keep having fun with it!

Does one use the gap method when throwing a ball? The brain is doing the calculations instinctively
@bjdog42
@bjdog42 Жыл бұрын
@Jack Tompkins the ball doesn't have a tip to use as a reference point. Trial & error teaches over time what the proper gap distance is. I intentionally focus on the target because I've learned my subconscious can calculate the correct gap for the distance far better than I can do it consciously. But I'm not under any illusion it's instinctive either.

@@bjdog42 how witty. You stated- don’t worry about labeling- and yet that’s exactly what you did. So that make you a hypocrite. Also with no sights it’s still instinctive shooting. End of story because I won’t argue with an idiot

You found your own method, and this is what makes people great at what they do. The rules are good to begin in a discipline, but then one has to go above and beyond, and adapt to their inner « wizard ». Mozart would probably never have tolerated to follow the « rules ». He made his own, and you too are blazing your own trail! Bravo 👏

I'm an instinctive shooter too. I had 5 sons and they had some friends over and were practing their archery. My son asked me to show his friends and handed me the bow. I turned and walked away from the target, spun around and hit the bulls eye. They looked at me with their mouths open and I told them "Practice" and walked away.

You are gifted. People want to say that the schooling and the proper way to do things is the right way, but when it comes to certain individuals, it is wrong. You were one of those people. I hope you continue challenging yourself with harder things. I would like to see moving targets at a distances. Normal people will say it can’t be done but to person like you if you stay with it and stay at it you will hit those moving targets at great distances . At least I believe that in my heart.

I really appreciate you answering my question about this. I started shooting a Bear Tigercat 34 lb recurve when I was around 13 or so. I would stick the plastic end of empty shotgun shells into the side of a dirt pile so my target was a round brass shotgun shell end. Stepped off 40 paces and would consistently hit them. Now I’m 69 and use a compound but don’t always use the pins. Depends on the distance. Releasing when you are moving your bow in any direction is engaging one muscle steadily. Holding on a target there will be multiple muscles erratically engaging trying to hold on point. I do the same thing when shooting a pistol.

I used to train someone on a machine and his method was so entirely different that just about everyone stopped to watch him. He didn't follow the steps or do it the way we were taught, but he got it done. I was intentionally letting him do his own thing, so he could learn from his mistake...or so I thought. Couldn't be happier to see him essentially do it his way. That gives another way of teaching if the "old school" method doesn't click with a new machine operator.
