A Remoska Prima (400W) Portable Oven is our solution to an extremely low wattage oven. Works like a dream in our van. Can be a little slow heating up, but a life saver in winter due to it's low power usage.
@FreedomStrider
@FreedomStrider Жыл бұрын
Yes, we used the same Remoska for our first year in the van and it did so great. Baked potatoes and pastries it could do. Pizzas, sauce bakes, flapjacks or just boiling water off it struggled with. So for us the upgrade has improved how we eat, but depending on what you cook and eat the Remoska can be enough. 🙂

very good vid ! But I have a question, if you had to choose for a Ninja Speedi, a Ninja 300 and a Instant pot Duo. Witch one you would choose ?

Hi thank you for sharing your upgrades. How did you secure your oven into your van?
@FreedomStrider
@FreedomStrider 4 ай бұрын
We used 18mm ply barriers in front of the oven rubber legs. They look like ply L pieces that are screwed to the shelf below - stopping the oven moving forward or sideways. The backwards motion was secured by the van curves and the very position of the oven, obviously you can add the barriers all around if necessary

What's the oven like in the cabinet? Is it ok ventilation wise in there?
@FreedomStrider
@FreedomStrider 3 ай бұрын
Theres no wall at the back and an air gap on the counter above it, so ventilation was fine, and the walls on the side aren't that close so there was enough air the ventilate it 👌

How do you find the Ninja? Just bought one for my van, tested it at home and noticed it get's really hot externally so a bit worried about housing it in
@FreedomStrider
@FreedomStrider 9 ай бұрын
We love the ninja oven, and we do recommend it. You do have to leave space on the sides and back for ventilation - it is a counter top oven so it's designed for open space. In our case we have about 10cm on either side.

It seems like a lot of investment for the return. There are many ways to cook potatoes that are more efficient. Smaller chunked potatoes cook faster. My Ecoflow with 300 ah 3500 watt inverter completely charges from zero charge with 15a ac in 2.5 hours. A small quiet 2,000 watt generator recharges it rather quickly. You could top off easily in low sun conditions.Less hours on your van engine, unless you are already driving. My brother has very little battery and runs microwave convection or cooktop only with his generator. A lot smaller investment. Surprisingly quiet

Microwaves are an interest, low powered and often short bursts, more effecient ways for sure, but the oven has been a game changer for us, and we do cook 70% of the time on our vango induction hobs too which are max 800w (but usually 300w on medium) 👍

What about the extra weight from the new batteries and cooking appliances?
@FreedomStrider
@FreedomStrider Жыл бұрын
The new batteries added 40kg so we removed the 40kg deck on the roof and the oven allowed us to remove a few other appliances so they should have balanced out. We are 3.5t at the moment

I’d be really interested in seeing a short or separate video of your oven if possible , that looks a nice bit of kit! Be great to see the different settings and power draw for each..unless it just uses the full 2.4kw all the time and just cycles on/off differently to regulate if you understand my meaning? I’m really struggling to decide wether to go no-gas, currently at the start/mid of our build a lwb sprinter ( which some of your early vids have been really helpful so thanks 👍🏼) I’ve followed you for a while ( I used to go by Ant Hart on here but since starting our build we started a new channel too) I’ve only put a couple of short clips up for now just to get it going whilst I learn to edit! There not very good 🙈😉 Seriously impressive power there guys! Atb Ant & Cat

Hey mate, great to hear from you. As far as we are concerned, we should have gone electric (and bought the excess batteries) from the start. With our rhythm of life and living full-time in the camper, electric is just so much easier and cleaner than gas. I would say, grab yourself a 460Ah roamer battery and you could run just about anything and recharge should be easy enough to match. Our batteries: roamer.com/products/460smart?aff=15 The oven, pulsates, so it doesn't change its draw from 2.4kw. it takes 15mins to get to temperature during which it's constantly pulling 2.4kw and then it just flicks on and off. It works really well. Worth mentioning that the ninja is one of the higher power countertop ovens, there are plenty of good electric mini ovens or microwaves/microwave combi which are less hungry. So if you did want to go electric but with a smaller capacity then there are plenty of good options. Van building, filming and editing, you are up for the full challenge 😂 it was quite the juggling act for us, but the results of the memories recorded are so worth it. Enjoy it all, and pace yourself

Hey guys do you plan on upgrading your solar
@FreedomStrider
@FreedomStrider 8 ай бұрын
Frankly, not at the moment. In the summer 540W is enough to recharge our daily usage, and in the winter we get barely any so upgrading would be pointless. Having tilting panels would be jice when stationary hut we aren't often stationary that long to make use of them, and then we have to think about strengthening the tilting for won't, motorway travel etc...doesn't seen worth the effort.

Hi, thanks for the video! I found it very informative! Can you please tell me whether you run a fidge/freezer from the electric alongside the various cooking appliances please? We are living in France and currently in negotiation with a company to convert our van, but want to have a good idea of what we need before our meeting on Friday. Many thanks Col
@FreedomStrider
@FreedomStrider 4 ай бұрын
Hey Col, yes we run a compressor fridge freezer 24-7. We also have 2 induction hops alongside the oven, we have also occasionally made waffles with our waffle maker and smoothies with a blender. We could run the oven and 1 induction hop together with our 3000W inverter. With our cooking style we use up about 150 - 200ah per day, so if you did not recharge, with 1000ah battery step (at 12v) we would last 5-7 days off-grid. With 500ah battery set up (at 12v) we could get 3-4 days. If you have solar coming in or you drive and alternator charge your batteries will top up. During the summer we have never worried about our power usage even when we have 200ah and or 540w solar panels recharged us. Hope this gives you an idea about what all the numbers mean practically. 😊

Well you know, still attached 😂... they are quite delicate to deal with and it's like walking on a tight rope. They seem to be going through steroid withdrawal, which quite literally means my hands are addicted to the cream. We are just managing to keep the itch at bay. Thanks for asking. ❤️

@@FreedomStriderhave you tried fresh Aloe from the plant not from a bottle?

Yes, I have... mixed results. I haven't looked into its chemical makeup so I'm not sure yet when is the appropriate time to apply. At present when the skin flares with 'steroid withdrawal' symptoms nothing heals the area, just slows the flare up. Rubbing Green tea has helped.
