As a white person who has no experience with locs, I'm just going to make an educated guess and say that this young man prefers healthy scalp that he can now touch and wash when he wants to. She couldn't even see it and she ended up making it look immaculate. She is out here working miracles for people! 🎉lol

Dreads are so interesting. People of Color's hair is so different than my own. I've watched a lot of videos of them doing and maintaining their hair. The care and love that needs to go into their hair is amazing and it's so nice to see more and more people be able to take care and love their natural hair.

As a former lochead freeform is cool, takes extra care when it comes to getting to the scalp but it’s what you sign up for

Personally my favorite type of locs are semi freeforms. Not exactly traditional and still with the same natural beauty but you can still occasionally maintain them with a retwist and a style and then go straight back to semi freeform

Everybody's hair doesn't work with free-form locs, so do what you do. Free-form takes longer to get dropped down, but if it is about appearing a certain way in the short term, then do it the other way.

Freeform hands down are the most unique dred locs. There a style all of there own. No need to style them. With freeform less is more. Whatever you put in them stays in them (this is true for all hair) Therefore you have the product buildup. I suggest using natural conditioner like aloe vera gel to prevent dryness. There's a transition period when growing freeforms. Just because you can't see the scalp doesn't mean you can't reach/clean it. It's just hair! Stop making it about freeforms and get to the root. This is a result of inexperience. True freeformers don't have these problems. We are minimalist and on a growth/spiritual journey. This you will never see a true freeformers in this chair. We don't want two strand twist down to the scalp. This kid is not on a level to maintain having long hair on his own period. His hair would have buildup even if was loose natural. Stop playing with freeform excellence!

I liked the way they looked before she twisted it. I like the way locs look when they’re natural but you can still tell that they are separated by parts (even though his wasn’t technically). When the retwist is old, it’ll look the best imo

I had sectioned and (expensively) made locks by a loctician... After 2-3 years including bleaching to dye them blue and all kinds of colours, deepcleaning weekly and washing them almost daily... My scalp hurt bc of the hairs that wanted to grow other ways then it was pulled into the neat locks... I unlocked them all except the one that didn't bother me... And still washing my hair daily, I even use shampoo and conditioner every once in a while, but I don't dye my hair anymore.. I am now about 4 years into freeform, I check the roots almost daily, my best friend who maintains my buzz also cleans up my locks every once in a while, which rarely takes an effort... My freeforms do not hurt my scalp like the sectioned ones where doing... I just massage my scalp regularly to relieve tension (also bc my chronic headaches, which I had long before I had locks haha)

Those free forms were amazing, they just needed to be separated into individual locs so you could see the scalp.

Different strokes for different folks. I prefer groomed locs for myself. However, some people look great with free form, or wicks.

Freeform all day! Natural progression is the way forward when it comes to dreadlocks I think, mind you that is only just me humble opinion

I like the twist because I like the box, it's just soooo semetrical, but the natural looks good too

I prefer free forming mine for 1- 2 years at a time then retwist. Feel like I get best of both worlds.

I wish I could do free form but I’m biracial so it wouldn’t be easy to seperate them like this. The beautiful thing about black hair is how you can cut it and reconnect it again. My hair is silky so it wouldn’t be able to make those bindings again so easily
