That’s me. I can hit bullseye the first shot at 20 yards then I start shooting low left. I’ll have to try this next time.

I notice that too my first shot is always super close and accurate but then it starts going low and left afterward. I always thought it would be the opposite lol where I wouldn’t be that accurate at first but get closer as I shoot but nope not really 😂😂

Aside from misaligned sights, another reason for low left/low right is shot anticipation. Slightly tipping the gun down as the trigger is being pulled. A subconscious attempt by the shooter to keep the muzzle down during recoil. Diagnose this issue by mixing dummy rounds with live rounds. The muzzle will dip on the click on the dummy rounds. Once this is determined, the shooter can do exercises to correct it. It's a relief to learn the reasons for shooting issues.✌🏽

I am a righty and was shooting low right (.22). Became better with higher velocity rounds (CCI Blazer) because the bullit leaves the barrel earlier, so less interference from anticipation movement? When I learned to surprise break, things really improved. I am convinced it was the shot anticipation that caused the low right impact.

I'm a long-time shooter who has been vexed with this issue. I've known I'm adding movement to the gun when breaking the shot. I found that my finger placement on the trigger ("too little," "too much," "just right") made ZERO difference. It doesn't matter AT ALL where my finger is (in my experience). It was coming from somewhere else. It was coming from the other fingers. "Milking the grip." "You're milking the grip!" Yeah! I know! How do I AVOID that?!? Nobody ever said what to DO about it... until this video. It was one of those head-smacking "D'oh!" moments. Grip it tighter! Looking forward to trying that at my next range session this weekend! Thanks!

That's a different take, I've heard from a couple trainers that low left shots typically come muscling the gun on the shot. Which made sense to me because I was gripping so tight, I thought I was pushing the gun down with my dominate hand. But when I loosened up a bit it got worse, so I didn't think that was really the issue for me. I will observe this the next time I shoot.

Yea, this is aggravating. Everyone tells me something different. I just saw a video and the instructor said the opposite and to shoot with the pinky OUT because that finger is the one which causes alot of the problems. Now this one tells me to grip it harder with the last two fingers. I've been shooting low left for the majority of my career in LE for 23 years.

My friend blames the sights. Refusing to hold the pistol properly, stand properly and insist on having the target 15 yards out. Target looks like Swiss cheese and he’s returning the pistol cause he everything is low left. When I fire his pistol at my laserlyte target, his red dot is spot on.

Sir...First off, thanks for that video. I will give it a try. I do have a question however. Assuming that someone is shooting a pretty tight group either low left or low right, how can you actually determine whether it's YOU or THE GUN? Having an idea or just plain knowing the answer to that I would think is paramount to getting the problem fixed. If it's the operator, then the operator needs to work on technique. If it's the gun, then that needs to be addressed. If you were to be incorrect as to what the problem actually is, you likely set yourself up for potentially creating problems that may not have existed in the first place.

After 45 years of carrying and mostly shooting J frame monster snubs I am positive that my flinch/anticipation is due to subconscious body motion to absorb recoil when I shoot any striker fire gun, which of course is my present carry gun for the past 10 years. The dummy round test just shows the body action and the variation of the amount of flinch shows how the mindful state varies. You can almost measure internal stress as the shot placement goes widely off target at certain times. There are some wonderful videos that really go into the neuro aspect of this. Grip and stance play small roles in my case. One of the most amazing test is when I start shooting poor I can sight the target and close my eyes and actually do better when firing. The anticipation of the travel of the finger, and hitting the wall pressure, pre thinks the actual firing and you tense and move forward to “absorb” the coming recoil. The biggest test is to take my ruger .22 pistol and fire off 50 rounds perfect and then place my sig 365 in my hand and then see how perfect I fire it. The use of the .22 kind of calibrates the brain to pull, wall, fire, in a relaxed timing sequence. Then going back to my 9mm 365 becomes near perfect. Another point is that usually the flinch comes after and early few shots when the brain is learning the bang portion and tries to “ help us” by pre thinking and tightening up in response but has the wrong timing. Just my own experience and i have been wrestling with this for decades and finally have it solved. BTW i never had this issue shooting a standard revolver, even with single action magnum rounds. The darn striker fire mechanics really messes with your brain. If you wired yourself to double action revolver heavy trigger, the striker fire is really a mind teaser .
