For people who don’t know, freeze branding is about 100x less painful than actual hot iron branding which yes was pretty inhumane. BUT cows feel pain on a much smaller scale than humans do so to them, the freeze brand may feel shocking at first, but it really is just an intense numbness where as the hot iron would feel like your flesh is melting off. Trust me, this is the way to go and is not animal abuse.
@FirestormDDash6 жыл бұрын
I agree, but I can also say something very cold confuses you as very hot. I know that from experiance. I have heard something very very hot mimics the feeling of cold. Oddly.

I don’t think a lot of people realize how significantly more humane this is. If you touch a hot stove long enough to get a second degree burn, the pain resulting from that can last days to weeks. Meanwhile anyone who has ever gotten a wart frozen off will tell you the pain is both nearly not as intense nor does it last as long. Plus, burn branding can lead to external infection where freeze branding does not

Skeptical Eye oh, he def hates it, but because it's not comfortable... Hot branding is extremely painful. Not only does it send terrible pain to your brain before it kills the nerve endings, it continues to hurt below the skin. Cold branding actually freezes and kills the nerves, which doesn't cause much pain, and because it is breaking the part of the hair follicle that produces color, it will come up at white, rather than with hot branding, that scars the skin, preventing hair from being grown.

If you're asking why cows are being marked, tell me how can you tell cows apart especially when the vet comes. and how to tell which cow is behaving strangely or sick etc. If you come up with nothing but complains you're just hypocrite who thinks we live in a perfect work. @shanedancer38956 жыл бұрын
Horsedick.MPEG what purpose would that serve? Make the cow feel better?
@jmmyjimmy1066 жыл бұрын
Shane Dancer Well it's like me as a man telling a woman that giving birth doesn't hurt and having no idea of what the pain is actually like. I imagine if all of the animal lovers we're to get to see the brander get branded so they could know the pain they're giving out. Similar reasoning as to why a police officer who cares OC spray or a tazer must be exposed to the pain each of those bring before being allowed to carry said items. Again it doesn't bother me as much as some people but I know I wouldn't even brand my dog or my cat to verify the animal is mine I would have a chip inserted under it's skin in case the dog was ever lost or stolen. That would obviously be the most humane way of tracking your animals but of course that would cut into profits too much so they go the cheaper route.

Animal farming is not a nescessity in developed countries except in a very few cases such as certain medicines. In 2009 the ADA published a peer reviewed paper stating that even pregnant women and children can receive adaquate nutrition without animal products. In 2016 the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics published a similar paper stating the same thing. If you type some variation of 'vegan strength athlete' into a search engine you should find people like Patrik Baboumian, Kendrik Ferris, Rob Bigwood and so forth. Whereas insulin historically was derived from pigs and cattle it is now most commonly derived from E coli bacteria and sometimes yeast. The latest developed flu vaccines are made from cultered cells and soon to come tabacco plants rather then grown in chicken eggs. It seems to me animal farming is mostly practiced by tradition NOT some carefully meditated conclusion of nescessity.

I'm glad hot branding is being phased out, but it'd be even better if we came up with cheap microchip tracking and RF indicators. It'd be even more humane and could help track lost or stolen cattle. I'm not even concerned for the 'abuse' aspect because it's for the cow's benefit, like how we have to get polio and smallpox vaccines. I'm sure they don't want to be rustled by someone!
@panduadikara90786 жыл бұрын
Lena Oxton you should also consider the cost. while it is indeed beneficial to him, it probably takes quite alot of money to set up and maintain such system compared to cold branding and some security cameras. but i dont really know, probably something similiar has already been used for sometime.

Honestly freeze branding is safer and more permanent than ear tagging. Ear tags can easily get infected if the cow catches them on anything or just get stuck and rip entirely out. Freeze branding is essentially the same as what doctors do to treat warts and while it is kind of uncomfortable and can do damage if done correctly it really doesn't hurt more than tattooing and is more visible. It definitely hurts a lot less than hot branding.

I’m sure I’ll still get hate. I’m a vegetarian (I can hear you sighing) it wasn’t a choice but a medical necessity but I’m very passionate about animals, I would rather this over hot branding any day! Anyone that’s seen cattle hot branded you can see it’s quite distressing for the animal, cold branding is minimal fuss! I imagine it to be like having a skin tag frozen off at the doctors, cold and odd sensation but no pain!

I see a lot of comments saying how either way whether it's cold or hot it's abuse but the way I think of it is like a tattoo, sure it hurts but after the pain that's it no more. Feel free to explain to me the use of this and to argue your point I would love to expand my knowledge.
@Zalamandar6 жыл бұрын
I think the idea behind it being abuse both ways is that we don't need to do it at all. These cows don't exactly live a pleasant life. Who knows, this cow could be led back to a shed to be grain fed all its life, or back to a confined pasture to fatten up. Then, before they've even reached a fifth of their age they get prodded through steel passageways into a room that reeks of the blood of their herd members and they can hear the screams of their pain. They try to back away but they get electrocuted so that they will keep moving forward, eventually being slotted into place like an object and shot in the head with a gun, or worse, hung upside down and have their neck slit while they're still alive. So you can see why some people here would object to any kind of branding - they see the continuity of the torture, not just the quick and single act. Also, as a side note, people usually want to have their tattoos - they aren't forced into a steel cage with their head locked in place while someone applies it to them. I hope that gave any insight into the not quite yet popular opinion of veganism.

Well, as i want to contribute as a farmer myself, you know that these cows are milk cattle right? they are holsteiner friesians, and they have their whole life (well except for winter when its too cold) outside. They live their whole lifes outside like any cow in the wild would do. These kind of cows are taken very good care of (on our farm at least) to have the least amount of pain so that they can live normally. But, i do not know why they mark their cows with a freezing stick. We always do little ear tags and we don't have problems with them. So, on the point of these cows living in misery, its not really true. On the other hand, they could be using ear tags instead.
@Zalamandar6 жыл бұрын
john v Are the cows also impregnanted by human hand to get them to produce more milk? And are the babies taken away from them once they’re born? Your farm sounds like it might be at least better than some, but those are still problems with the dairy industry in general.

@@jacobstainbrook7196 branding is not done so much for theft in the UK. Cattle here have a 12 digit ID code- the first 6 numbers are a herd ID, so all animals born on a farm will have the same 6 starting numbers, then the following 6 numbers will be unique in ascending order. This brand is just the last 3 digits, if you have a larger herd you may show more numbers. You have to have a 12 digit tag in each ear that matches a passport when selling, branding is optional and a management tool for quick ID and in case both eartags are lost
