Freezing Bell Peppers. Cosori Vacuum Sealer. MOSFiATA Chef's Knife. What's Up Wednesday! Our pepper plants are really producing a lot of bell peppers! We harvested over 40 bell peppers from the container garden and now we are processing them for the freezer. I washed the peppers, sliced into strips using the MOSFiATA Chef's Knife, and preserved them using the Cosori Vacuum Sealer. The MOSFiATA Chef's Knife did quick work of cutting these peppers into strips. The vacuum sealer does a great job sealing the packages so the peppers will not get freezer burned.

Thank you Lona. Yes, lots of fun (and learning). We gave up on tomatoes because of the ugly hookworms and the blossom rot. Then these peppers were rotting. So it took some education to guess and fix the problem. So they seem a lot more happy now. Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video.

Love my green peppers. Because of the water content in peppers and onions, before putting them in bags, I put them in a single layer on large sheet pans in my freezer then put them in the bags. This keeps them from sticking together.

Thank you Tracci. Yeah, we came back from our camping trip and had quite a bit of peppers to pluck as the bushes were starting to get stressed out from the weight. I surprised Amy, that's for sure. Yes, bell peppers are delicious.

I really LOVE your down to earth style of teaching. I've learned a lot from your videos. Thank you!! I buy veggies in bulk at our local farmer's market here in Wisconsin. Now I can add peppers to the list.

I cut up the stem ends too. I like chopping them up and putting them in sandwich bags then in freezer bags. I do the strips too that way. I personally like the colored sweet peppers better than the green. Thank you for the video. I don't have a vacuum sealer to use. Grandma Sue in central Indiana and Izzi Too

they're called Pinot Noir. We got them at Lowes along with the other plants. Kinda weird. Figured we'd try them out. Yeah, we got a lot of peppers!!! they're growing pretty good, but my pumpkin plant doesn't seem happy so maybe he needs more fertilizer? Been almost a month since I did that and these pots drain whatever I put in them (good for the roots, bad for nutrient retention).

@@carolynjordan4633 My neighbors snack on peppers. They have four kids and go thru three peppers per day. Just snacking on them or mixing in meat for hamburgers. Me? I like them with onions. How was your cholate pepper? I never heard of it either. Of course, I never knew of pinot noir bell peppers either, but you saw them (the purple ones).

Thank you Alexandre. It's not weird to love knives. It is nice to appreciate craftsmanship, no matter what the tool is. The peppers are fun to grow, although they were a bit of a challenge early on. We'll try to get an updated picture of them as they are getting a little big for being in pots on our deck.

I know! I told amy that I had four plates with 10 peppers each. She was like "whaaaaaattt??" until she saw them herself. Crazy. We were not expecting that since these plants were very slow at first to produce anything. Then they kept producing peppers with rot. I tried different things. At first we thought the weather, then not watering them enough or watering too much, maybe needed calcium, needed different fertilizer? Finally, they seemed 'happy' and started producing lots.

@@judysutton9758 Thank you. I think it's crazy looking. You know Amy, right? She has a Pan Room (and a Pan Cave). She can't make do with just one thing, she always goes overboard. But I wanted to show off the peppers since we really had a hard time with them. So I'm thankful the plants finally kicked in. Yes, that sight is very funny. Like what do we do with all of these? LOL. Way overkill.

Thanks for the video. Curious how to keep them from getting soggy? I cut them up on Sunday and vacuum sealed them with paper towels got into them tonight for a salad and they were all soggy. Any suggestions or hints? If I freeze them won't they be soggy when you thaw them out? Thanks

So, when using a vacuum sealer, does it keep the peppers crunchy also or kinda soft like regular freezing does. We have a gazillion peppers, Anaheim peppers, okra, and crowder peas, I’m running out of space 🙃. Always fun to watch you Amy 🌸
@EricLearnstoCook
@EricLearnstoCook 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Diane. I think it keeps the peppers from freezer burning/crystallizing. So they'll be frozen, with 'some' cell damage from freezing like most things that have moisture and get frozen. I'm sure they'd be a bit mushy if thawed out. I'm planning on tossing them straight into the pan when I go to use them as I don't want to risk any mushiness. Sounds like you are in pepper heaven right now. LOL. Good luck with all of that. Sounds like tons of fun.

Most of the time I just use soapy water and then rinse it off. I bought a Cerama Bryte kit with the scraper in case we get some good stuff on there. I use the yellow soft scrub thing it comes with or the 3M blue sponges. Sometimes I'll use Windex, but not that often. I hope that helps.

Amy, I need your advice! Which stand mixer would you recommend for someone looking to buy their 1st one? I bake a few times a week including bread & pizza dough. I need something that won’t die on me after a couple of years but also doesn’t break the bank lol! I thought I wanted a Kitchenaid but seems like all the reviews say the new ones suck & quality has gone way downhill.

Thanks for watching. We did a video around Memorial Day when we first planted these (showing the pots, soil and what we did). We just shot a garden 'update' that we need to edit and get up. We bought various containers from Ollie's Bargain Mart, filled some with potting soil from Costco and some with potting soil from Ollie's. I used a variety of granulated bone meal, granulated lime, and granulated fertilizer (all organic). I added 2 or 3 inches of mulch when the weather got hot in July to help them retain moisture because they were wilting by the time I got home each night. I included a shot of the bags of stuff I added in this latest update. The plants are still kicking, and I just gave my neighbors another 10 peppers (and 20 for us). I hope that helps. Stay tuned. We should have the update up this week, maybe on Saturday. I don't follow directions. I like to add fertilizer once each month (instead of every 4 months) because I believe it gets leached out of the soil when the water drains out of the pots. The plants seem to respond to it. My biggest challenge was the blossom rot at the beginning. I think calcium and magnesium helped (from the lime, not so much from the bone meal).
