Hey Guy's, while I was down south I made a visit to Anniston, Alabama. The Western Terminus of The Chief Ladiga Trail. Alabamas Longest Rail Trail, starting in Anniston and ending at The Georgia Border. The Trail is well maintained and 33 miles of smooth black top. At the Georgia border starts Georgias Longest Rail Trail, also paved, The Silver Comet Trail. The Silver Comet trail heads east nearly into downtown, Atlanta. Im going to have to come back for that one.
I had a great time out and back on The Chief Ladiga Trail for a 66 mile day. This trail makes my list and is a must ride. Looking forward to heading back to the south to see what other trails I can find. Catch you on the trail.

Alabama side is asphalt, Georgia side is concrete. Tree roots are bucking up the pavement, be careful and look out for them. Very nice, start early and enjoy the ride!

Yeah, it gets colder than you'd think down here, but it usually warms up nicely by afternoon.

A tip from a cold weather winter cyclist in Iowa, buy a pair of cycling sandals. With them you can layer several pair of wool socks on your feet without pinching your toes. We often ride in single digits, at night.

Thanks for posting about this and the George connecting trail. Didn’t know they existed. 20 years ago I discovered Florida’s trail system. I live in NJ and I would head south to ride there during winter. Some seem so different than I expected. Seeing cowboys rounding up cattle along a trail there was not what I was expected. Might give this a try sometime.

Ya gotta do The Silver Comet and Chief Ladiga together. Great Ride! The Comet is concrete so it's smoother than the Ladiga. Pretty hilly between Cedartown and Rockmart though. Lots of good stealth camping until just before Dallas. After that it's very populated and there are cameras along the trail.

For Rill, working on it. Living in the bus full time and freezing weather has slowed progress. However the bus is going to be in an arts festival outside Pittsburgh in early July, Its going to be painted in the middle of a huge festival, and I would like to have the bus near completed by then. Like solar panels and the whole deal. So stay tuned and much more to come, and this is going to start in about a week. Best update I can do for right now, catch you on the road.

Is their camping spots on that trail or the silver comet trail ?, I didn’t even know those trails existed, it’s not to far from me
@TravelingThru222
@TravelingThru222 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't see any specific camp spots on The Ladiga, however the Trail passes Thru The Talladega national Forest, where you can basically camp anywhere along some basic guidelines. The Pinoti Trail comes Thru there, its a major national scenic trail, and those Thru hikers camp somewhere. I would definitely stealth camp on both of these trails.

The trail cuts Thru the Talladega national forest, primitive camping is allowed around the Pinhoti trail. So, yes.
