2 жыл бұрынDisclaimer: I have no official source or idea, where this song is from, which is why I only wrote basic information about the Freikorps. I thought it is from the 1920s but some state it could be from the 1990s. If it should be from a controversial source, I want to distance myself from it of course. I just think the song is badass, that's all :)
General info about the Freikorps:
The meaning of the word Freikorps changed over time. After 1918, the term was used for the paramilitary organizations that sprang up around Germany as soldiers returned in defeat from World War I. They were the key Weimar paramilitary groups active during that time. Many German veterans felt disconnected from civilian life, and joined a Freikorps in search of stability within a military structure. Others, angry at their sudden, apparently inexplicable defeat, joined up in an effort to put down communist uprisings, such as the Spartacist uprising, or exact some form of revenge on those they considered responsible for the armistice. They received considerable support from Minister of Defence Gustav Noske, a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany. Noske used them to crush the German Revolution of 1918-19 and the Marxist Spartacist League, including arresting and murdering Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg on 15 January 1919. They were used to defeat the Bavarian Soviet Republic in May 1919.

Not an empire/multiculturalistic slavery under one master, but a neighbourhood coucil with representatives loyal an tied to ONE tribe/house in the neighbourhood, not a seperate elite class like in Brussel where they are a masterclass seperate from the tribes/houses. Only a parlament with people from ONE tribe that cannot flee during bad times, but has to stay if their politics leads to bad economic times etc. Otherwise we get a nomadic, seperate elite who will suck a tribe dry and move to the next. No! Only loyal representatives allowed. Maybe we can use EU as a means to reestablish european communal order or maybe we will have to make something from scratch. But we all know what we need and want, and dont want.

Well, after ww1 (and the "treaty" of Versailles) it was about Upper Silesia and a part of it was taken by / given to Poland. After ww2 all of Silesia was given to Poland (together with Eastern Brandenburg, Pomerania with Danzig and the southern part of Eastern Prussia.

My great grandfather volunteered to fight in WW1 in 1918 at age 16-17. In 1919 he and two of his brothers (who both saw action at Verdun and Ypres) joined the Freikorps. I think it was called “Epp”. They fought in Munich in 1919. They later became close friends with Bulgarian Tsar Ferdinand (exiled), he even attended my great grandfathers wedding.

The more i learn of the Freikorps the more I sympathize with them as to why they formed in the first place. War hardened veterans fighting for their nation which in their view (and because of certain aspects of Versailles treaty) were being mistreated with many attempted communist revolts.

Those Freikorps troups were really tough guys, fighting on in the east to protect Silesia and inside Germany against extremists is really admireable. They were no homogenous group tho, you had different kinds of Freikorps groups in each German region. Some were ofc more brutal, others were very noble defending German regions by risking their life. It is a short but extremely interesting time.

Actually freikorps, grenzschutz and selbstschutz were also a bunch of war crimers, responsible for shooting to civilians during the Greater Poland and Silesian uprising. Of course, the were shooting to commies and i know that but the were also a not only good anarchy killers or something like that.

What the Freikorps did for Prussia was honorable. Their sacrifice should not be forgotten, held lightly or abandoned just because a certain group of politically "awake" people and historical revisionists would like to associate them with the "angry Austrian painter" and his "German Workers Party" for their own political reasons. Never forget history, use the example of these loyalists and defenders of freedom so that next time the bad guys don't take over again. Don't let the sacrifices of these, the most of unsung heroes be in vain. May all of them Rest in Peace.

The Freikorps were true German patriots, not fighting for money or power, but fighting to keep the people safe, I think that shows the patriotism that the German soldiers coming home from The Great War had, they still had a love fur das Vaterland and were willing to fight again to keep the people and land of Germany safe, Für Deutschland!

To me, it has the strum, sound and beat of a late 50's early 60's U.S. protest song. Speaking of which, back in the 60's, Dean Rusk, the U.S. Secretary of State during the Vietnam War, complained that "hippies were just a bunch of [café]shirts" It took me a couple of decades to figure out what he was talking about. chirp, tweet, chirp, tweet, and fly away. :)

Many of the Stahlhelm had been part of the idealistic pre war youth movement, the Die deutsche Jugendbewegung and; and that included a wide spectrum of basically Romantic Wandervogel (wandering birds), hiking, folk singing, and health and nudity devotees. They enlisted enthusiastically, got slaughtered mercilessly at places like Langemarck and emerged hardened and militarized. So... actually... Rusk knew his history.

been trying to get a few friends to do a bolt action campaign set in Weimar Germany although it will probably be a little fantastical, cause I want to make the political side important while still having basically having a 4 way civil war. (with any freikorps players able to choose who they back)

I’ve been living and working in England for the last 35y As a GP. When i started I was known as Dr Fritz by older folk and they had no issue with a German doctor, this changed. Alas that changed in the wrong direction with the younger Generation. One regular discussion with new friends and colleagues are often awkward. Try and explain to an English person that the war didn’t end on the 11/11 at the eleventh hour on the western front but continued on eastern front till Rapallo 1922. Also there was an effective civil war. In the meantime the blockade of German ports continued, leading to massive starvation and death following the armistice. This tends to lead to a discussion over the issue of 12m ethnic Germans that have been forced onto cattle cars in a fit of ethnic cleansing.
