The purpose of a tuba, bass guitar, and lower piano notes are usually to outline the chords with rhythm. This is to make the other instruments sound better. The tuba had a fire part, and they absolutely nailed it.

I love this!! In high school our French horn sucked so bad. Being that I was first chair alto, I had to play the first chair part for French horn but on my alto sax. Transposing for French horn is easy, you just play one note higher than what is written. So I guess if you did the opposite of me, you could transpose for alto sax. Edit: I forgot to say that French horns usually tend to get some of the best melodies, and the best solos!

funny thing is, the french horn as all the tube length of the Bb and F tubas wrapped up in there. And a conical bore. You're just a skinny little mouthpiece and tight embouchure away from playing those horn parts if you really wanted to. ;)
