great footage of locals who would have heard and seen allied planes flying over for the previous 4 years, and footage of American soldiers before the horrors that lay ahead..

Amazed that cigarettes and wine are easily avaliable...I see it in many of the Pathe' and Chronos videos. WHERE did the money come from??

The Nazis hi-jacked the French economy; they didn’t put it to a stop. Look at it this way… the Nazis wanted to drink French wine and smoke cigarettes during their stay; if French civil industry shut down, they’d be SOL… The Nazis were getting paid for occupying France, they wanted to get rich off the occupation… (as well as use French ports for Naval/Uboat offensives)

It would take more than Hitler to stop the French making wine.

U.S. Forces provided their personnel freely and liberally with cigarettes. American GIs found them to be ready currency among the European populace, who’d been denied such luxuries. In the early time of occupation of defeated Germany, cigarettes were the preferred medium of exchange.

Thank God for the marines. A shame that Europe is so reluctant to help the Ukrainians and once again it is thanks to the good old US of A.
