French Royalist Song - Debout Les Gars

Күн бұрынDebout Les Gars (Wake up boys) is a French royalist song written in 1899 by French-Breton singer Théodore Botrel. The song tells of the counter revolutionary uprisings that happened in 1793 in various provinces of France to oppose the republican regime in Paris. While unsuccessful, these uprisings took a heavy toll on the republican armies and the heroism of the outnumbered and mostly untrained and under equipped monarchists was cherished for some time in the provinces opposed to the revolution.

@Daan Schlüter To revise the treaty would undermine the integrity of the Kingdom of Spain. Which has enough problems of it’s own without salivating the avarice of Republican subversives in Spain who would welcome your suggestion as an opportunity to abolish the Spanish Bourbons.

0:50 “Nous gars avaient â leur tête pour venger le Roi, le Roi!” “Bonchamp, Soufflet ou Charette, ces vengeurs du Roi, du Roi!” This two verses were translated separately, but I believe that if you consider them together they can have another meaning. That Bonchamp, Soufflet and Charette were the “heads” (leaders) that the Breton boys had in their struggle to avenge the King. Otherwise the reference to these 3 leaders seems a bit lost in the context.

But those who wrote this song were royalists, not Bonapartists. The Bourbons and their supporters were not admirers of either Napoleon I (who shot the Duke of Enghien) or his nephew.

To imagine that all portraits depicting Louis XVI' s natural/biological mother were removed from Versailles after she passed away, because nobody any longer could stand her ugly looks ! The canvasses were even repainted with beautiful landscapes, as was discovered by experts at Sotheby's in New York a couple of years ago.

J'admire nos Empereurs pour avoir tenté tant bien que mal de concilier les valeurs libérales de leur temps avec la stabilité de la royauté, mais il est évident qu'en 2021 l'heure n'est plus à la conciliation et que le Grand Royaume de France fût toujours plus prestigieux que la République Française qui a effacé nos cultures régionales ainsi que notre Histoire dominé par la Royauté de 987 à 1792 (puis 1815-1830, 1830-1848) et sous la coupe de l'Empire lors des enjeux les plus décisifs (Guerres Napoléoniennes sous Napoléon I puis Révolution Industrielle sous Napoléon III). Alors ne nous divisons pas d'avantage sur des détails, c'est déjà ce qui a empêché un retour à la Monarchie peu après la défaite de 1870. Vive le Roi, vive l'Empereur.
