Thank you SO MUCH! That made popping the ears on BOTH sides so easy. I was using the valsalva and it was less controlled... I seemed to need to apply way to much force and even at that only one ear popped. The one which I couldn't equalise ended up with a diagnosed mid-ear barrotrauma after scuba diving. I will use this next time I am in the water. Video crreators like yourself who can communicate real information so quickly are invaluable. I'll be sure to check out your other videos. THANKS from my ears, man!

Thanks so much for your comment, we really appreciate it! Equalisation is on of those things that are so easy to over think as there is a few moving parts. In short all we are doing is pinching our nose and pushing our tongue to the roof of the mouth. Cheers!

Hey that's great! A few days ago I went freediving with some whale sharks at Panaon island, Philippines. The sharks went pretty deep and were a bit too fast for me (even though they seemed to be swimming as slowly as possible). I managed to freedive down to about 20 metres and swim quickly alongside one of them for a while. It was incredible! But I often have problem with diaphramatic equalization, so thanks for your video! Frenzel seems so much easier and more effective.

I am able to generate it in a couple of different ways *moving air in/out wile the tounge is pushing the inner side of my upper front teeth or pallet..... Thank you for taking the time

@freedivingcentral
@freedivingcentral 9 ай бұрын
Hi @DianaDelibaltov So happy to hear this video has helped you! If its a single ear that is giving you grief it means that it is a tight estuation tube. Our estuation tubes are full of elasticity and we usually have one tube that has more flexibility or range than the other. Applying a soft constant pressure to the ears will defiantly help with more flexibility and doing this regularly. Very shortly we will have a video out specifically for this this issue. Cheers Dan :)

Thanks for video!!😊 Is there a possibility that the frontal sinus is not equalized due to a wrong Frenzel technique? because for two years that I've been spearfishing I've had a problem with my left frontal sinus (it hurts at a depth of 5-8 meters), even though my ears are equalizing. Usually the problem appears after a few dives, in the middle of the day. Do you have anything to suggest, because I'm desperate?😢

Hey Dan so I took a freediving course a few weeks ago for a weekend and unfortunately could not pass as I could not do any of the frenzel equalizing to save my life. Thankfully you were just able to help me do the T sound properly and actually allow me to pop my ears which is super! What is still a problem for me though is the pressure building. Keeping the tip of my tongue in the same spot, and lifting my soft palette/glottis up and down does nothing and I feel like the back of my tongue and throat are just jumping up and down to no avail. Is there any more of a detailed way you can tell it that could help? Thanks so much.

What you need is a larynx lift, it has the most range to reduce the volume in your nasopharynx hence creating pressure.

I've been trying to frenzal for years.. I can build pressure my throat looks the same and I get a bulge in my nose I feel my ears change however whenever I try and do this in the water I just can't equalise... I do have to push quite hard to Valsalva.. any tips on how to learn to build more pressure from this technique? Cheers for the video that was super clear and easy to understand.
@freedivingcentral
@freedivingcentral Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Based on what yotu have said, it sounds as though it's a soft pallet issue, as you can get air to your ears in an upright position, and when you are upside down the air is unable to make it to the middle ear. Its not about how hard you can equalise but more about soft pallet control and being comfortable in the water. I had the exact same issue when I started freediving 🙃. For example I had to do a lot of feet first diving. My mind was comfortable but not my body. The soft pallet is part of our body's fight flight freeze mechanism and if the body I's uncomfortable in any way while under water, especially while starting out the soft pallet will close, the body does this is to stop foreign objects coming in. In short lots of feet first dives that feel great! Good sensations only! And definitely worth investing in a freediving equalisation tool these are perfect for train the soft pallet. We sell them on our website if you are interested. Hope this helps 🙏

@@freedivingcentral thanks for the detailed reply mate, I do get a significant fill sensation to my ears when I Valsalva, but not when I frenzal. I physically feel the air push through my et when I Valsalva but I never get that same feeling from frenzal.. I've been diving for 10+ years I always feel comfortable in the water and have done a bunch of free diving courses however my depth is stagnated by the inability to frenzal 🫤 I'll take a look at the eq tools.

i’m not sure if if doing the frenzel correctly, does the nose flare up when doing frenzel?
@freedivingcentral
@freedivingcentral 9 ай бұрын
Hey there, the nose flaring up is a great indication that you are getting air to the nasal cavity. Once you have the nostrils flared and you apply more pressure this will force our estuation tubes apart (the estuation tubes a a mucus membrane lined tube, this means they are wet and always stuck together) and allow air to flow to the middle ear this is where you will either hear a pop or a wet sound, this is equalising.
@beatezeuner1817

well "not trying to move the chest" isnt as easy as it sounds. I felt the how to close the glottis part is left out in this video. I can equalize with pressing my tounge to the roof, but I slightly move my chest for that. Even though its only slightly, that means my glottis is open so this is just another variant of Valsalva, which is a better valsalva for sure but not frenzel. Maybe some people do it correctly by nature, but for me the trouble is how to press the tounge to the roof whilst letting the glottis closed (I can close it seperately) and keeping the soft pallete open.

Hi Glenn, Sorry to hear about your struggles. Sounds like there are some internal issues. Give the body plenty of rest. For some of us equalisation does not happen overnight. I have heard of sinus surgery taking months and months to heal. In the coming weeks we will be releasing equalisation problem solving, hopefully this will give you some help. Cheers, Dan
