Layton Williams and his professional dance partner Nikita Kuzmin are in the studio this morning to reveal how they hope this week’s routine will surpass Saturday night’s spectacular samba. They’ll be telling Lorraine what they make of criticism that Layton has an unfair advantage given his musical theatre background and why Layton believes being his true self on the show feels like an act of defiance.

So let me see if I got this right? He’s being criticized for being a FULL trained dancer , right? That means he’s fully trained in all types of dance including ballroom? Well his background doesn’t support that. As a kid he didn’t dance but street dance. When he won the role of billy Elliot he had to learn ballet and tap which took him 9 months. He also trained in street dance. No contemporary, no ballroom, and no traditional hip hop. So he isn’t fully trained. Yes he has a background in dance but not ballroom. So not sure what the fuss is about? Many dancers have appeared on dwts and strictly , so? If he is given beginner level routines than maybe but Nikita is giving him very difficult routines. For people to say Layton doesn’t have to work as hard or put in the hours like the other non dancers is a slap in the face to both him and Nikita . I think people should keep their opinions to themselves and just enjoy the show!

Exactly.... I've run into commentary where people have said that Layton could've either choreographed some of the routines or be or be invited back as a pro dancer.... That is a massive insult to all the pros on the show, who've spent their entire lives training in predominantly ballroom/Latin to become champions. Nikita - 6 Italian championship titles Vito - either 10 or 11 Italian championship titles. Neil - at least 40 awards and championship titles to his name. Non of the contestants, not even Layton (and he is exceptionally good) have that kind of knowledge or experience.

I think what people mean about being a trained dancer is the ability to pick choreography up quickly and remember a routine. Also having the confidence to perform in front of people.
