While I was watching the movie I was all like “I don’t think Herons eat mallard Ducks even if they do why would they eat elderly ducks?” When I looked up herons they do eat Mallard Ducklings it would make sense because normally predators go after the weak and/or young from herds or ducks case flocks

Actually Herons do eat ducklings. They eat crabs, frogs, fish, salamanders, mice and other birds, including ducks

Hello, there it's Me Lavarius Cork: When I first saw the Migration movie 2023 I thought the Herons were going to eat the mallards but when I watch towards the end when Dax and Gwen were trap a Giant Catfish swoop up Dax and Gwen and Erin the elderly Heron Saved the Young Mallards ducks: Dax and Gwen so the Mallard family stayed the day and said goodbye too the Herons and they continued their Journey towards Jamaica.

He Could catch any prey with a single swift peck. [fly buzzing] Heron Erin: Those were the good old days. Now Harry's too old. Heron Erin: I'm the one who brings food back to the nest. But, anyway, you must be exhausted. Heron Erin: Here's your bed. Mack Mallard: There's no way we're sleeping in that. Heron Erin: But's it's our finest bed. Pam : And it is perfect. Thank you. They come off as creepy (after all they are fierce predators), but they are well-meaning

@gisellethesquid, Yes, the herons are meant to come off as scary. However, these are great blue herons, who generally prefer fish, but nonetheless are known to prey upon ducklings every now and then. Which is what causes the whole confusion for the ducks when they realize the herons had no interest in consuming them. Had these been gray herons, the story would’ve changed a little bit.
