The word free energy is misused a lot. The equipment is costly, along with the maintain. There is nothing free about it.

Guessing the free aspect is the fact that we don't have to pay for the sun and wind to exist in nature (thankfully). It's also false to claim that the operation of any of this tech is "effortless"...

The word “free” does not apply to oil, gas, etc…because building those infrastructures and maintenance is also insanely expensive…while the sun is a endless source, world natural resources are not!!

@@blindsoldier The sun might be endless but turning it into electrical and storing it is costly. The point being there's nothing free about it. Let's make a comparison with fossil fuels. They are free the cost is obtaining them. Any energy source requires the impacting. of the enrolment. Solar, wind, hydroelectric fossil all do. The free part doesn't exist.

@@comeasyouare4545 fossil fuels is not only “getting” them. You need to refine it, purify it, etc… The biggest problem with “green” energy is “storage” facilities. Indeed a solution/alternative to lithium must be find. But the world can no longer be dependent on Venezuela, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, etc…

‘Place in your back yard’ just need a river, lots of space plus farm animals, or lots of money that you probably don’t worry about this stuff anyway. Probably about the only thing average families would be able to afford and use might be the tulip one depending on price. Also the rain water system.

The oceans are mostly untapped. There's quite a bit of energy density from the kinetic force of moving water. We do a lot with rivers, but very little tapping of ocean tides and waves.

Honestly the problem with the ocean is that it's _too_ powerful. It tends to batter everything you put into it to pieces. And then there are those unpredictable storms. They were doing some undersea turbine in Scotland taking advantage of the constant strong currents and that seemed pretty promising.

@@Rainbow_Oracle They did 1 in NY. I think it was near the bottom of the East River. They used it to power a supermarket. The ocean is immensely powerful, but they manage to have massive drilling derricks.

I think I will let our power company come up with the best way to produce power. I do encourage them to go nuclear. We have 38K acres in solar and that only covers 3% of the capacity of our power system. It is mostly farm land. Solar is actually not owned by our state. It is leased. I wonder who will clean up the mess in 30 - 40 years.

My off grid 4kw solar system with backup batteries costs me roughly $17,000.00. Call your local solar company they will tell you.

@@junkvista61 4kw solar should be around 5000 euro's now. And buy a 5kwh battery only. Not those big Tesla things (way dear). 5kwh is around 2500 euro these days, easily to plug in. So with some labour, get this all done within 10000 euro. That is 11000 dollars......
