Using limitations to check and develop your Fretboard Knowledge and Fretboard Visualization.
In this video I am going to go over a way to practice that teaches you how to find material and use it everywhere on the neck when you are improvising. One thing is to practice all the things you need like scales and arpeggios in all positions. You also have to make sure that you get it to a point where you can use it in music. And ironically the best way to become free all over the neck is it to limit yourself to limit yourself to one position while playing a song.
For me this was an essential way of building my ability to move around the fretboard freely. I have, by now, spend a lot of time with this and still keep coming back to it to work out a bit on tunes I am studying. You can always find new things here and develop further.

Hi Jens I was looking forward to your lesson, I knew Lady Bird vaguely so learning it took me 5 -10 minutes, than I took the metronome like you did and try during my solo after playing the theme a few times by heart, and incorporating some, minor major arpeggio's that matched up nicely with the altered scale arpeggio's minor major as well, also I tried to incorporate that db # 11 at the G7, this reminded me to Jazz lessons from way back but still You've got be learning again so that is Great! Because I play weekly in two combo's I guess the last three years I saw a lot tunes coming by, for my self my main goals are being able to play altered scale in much more ways and I try out themes that exist in the altered scale to get them sound more like music, also I studied How Deep the Ocean from Bill Evans(on piano)my main instrument is still guitar but practicing i do more on piano, I learned from him that II V are great to substitue by D7altered and G7 altered and recently I try as a practice routine also on rythm changes to play each chord altered so in Bb7 altered- G7 aleterd-C7altered F7... of course in reality it will be often Bb7 G7 seen as one chord because of the #9 nine on the G7, so than it ables to play just in Bb and on Cm7 F7 i'd like to play just F altered, so leave out the cm...Looking forward to your next lesson...

Haha, well. I am sorry if my question doesn't fit your artistic ambitions Max. I was just trying to figure out what you meant, but if you consider that stuff beneath you then why did you comment on the video or even warch it?
@JensLarsen
@JensLarsen 5 жыл бұрын
Well, I wouldn't worry about it. I am not offended, but I was curious why you first commented and then dismissed the original question (and the video topic) like that. If you read yor responses you should be able to see it? For the rest don't take it too seriously 🙂

@Max Mustermann So "Sheer visual representation" does not sound dismissive to you? Maybe it's because English is not my first language. Actually the video (or the question is not about that, I think you are missing at least one layer of it, but maybe the video is not so clear.

What's that thing at the nut of your guitar that looks like a scrunchie?
@JensLarsen
@JensLarsen 5 жыл бұрын
It's hairband that I use as a mute for open strings, but it does not really do anything when it is behind the nut- I sometimes use it while recording or practicing legato. Is Scrunchie another word for hairband? (and how does that work?) 😄
