Roth won his first PBA Tour title in the 1975 King Louie Open and rolled a 299 game in the championship match. In 1978, he set a PBA record that still stands, winning eight titles in a single season. Shown in this video is the Quaker State Open, which Roth won over Marshall Holman. It was Roth's second title of 1978. In 1980, Roth became the first player in PBA Tour history to convert the 7-10 split during the televised finals, a feat only accomplished three times since. He won two majors among his four titles in 1984, also earning his fourth PBA Player of the Year Award (which he previously won in 1977 through 1979). His 34th and final title came in the 1995 IOF Foresters Open with a win over Walter Ray Williams Jr.

I was a teenage junior league bowler in the mid 1970s when Mark became a force to reckon with on the PBA tour. He's my all-time favorite bowler and number 3 on my all-time greatest PBA bowlers list. Thanks for the memories.

R.I.P. Mark Roth. My favorite bowler watching The Pro Bowlers Tour on ABC in the 1980's as a young kid. One of a kind watching his approach to the foul line as he cranked the bowling ball down the lane. A true legend in professional bowling 🎳!!!

34 PBA titles. Inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame. Inducted into the USBC Hall of Fame. 4 time PBA player of the year. Most titles in a single season. R.I.P. Mark Roth. A true legend! 🎳

Was my favorite Bowler ever I know we lost a great Bowler R I P. Mark Roth 🙏☦️🎳 But he was one of the all time greatest ever he was a really tough biwler and he gave ut hus all always.

I was a little girl maybe 5 or 6 years old, My dad Bernie Breskin would take me with him every weekend to Rainbow lanes bowling alley in Brooklyn, He went there quite often was fairly known there as one of the better bowlers. He even gave lessons and tips to the up and coming bowlers, One of them happened to be Mark Roth. My Dad and Mark became friends and Mark also became a regular at my house. I remember him being such a nice and polite man, very happy, always smiling. I was sad to read about his passing, may he Rest in peace

What I love about this man is EVERY clip of him winning a title either sitting or making the shot he is so humble. He keeps his composure, none of the hooping and hollering or fist in your face. A true class act. RiP

Totally agree - nothing but class before and after a match. Aside from that, he was unique among the other power players in that he was an insanely accurate spare shooter. That combo made him pretty dangerous to compete against.

Saturday morning jr. bowling league, then going home and watching Pro Bowler Tour on ABC in the 70s and 80s... that's how I spent my winters as a kid. The first scene was crushing.

God bless Mark Roth, the father of the cranker delivery, and no one could duplicate it, with also one of the most unique multi-step deliveries. An inspiration to bowlers everywhere.

I was lucky enough to meet and bowled with the legendary Mark Roth in Palmyra Pennsylvania years ago in a PBA Eastern Regional tournament and he was a really awesome guy to talk to. RIP Legend

Absolutely my favorite bowler of all time…Saw the 7-10 live when I was a little lad….My Grandmother would would root for Earl Anthony and I would root for Mr Roth …He made bowling cool in the 80’s…Sad we lost him….May he rest in eternal peace….🙏🙏🙏

This man changed the game. Nobody could hook the ball like him with rubber and urethane balls. Roth was one of the first POWER PLAYERS. There will never be another like him. RIP MARK ROTH.

I met Mr. Roth at rainbow lanes Knapp st. in Brooklyn while I was eating french fries at the restaurant section. I said Mark how you doing and he replied except for my thumb I’m doing OK and yet even with the Badfinger he was beating everybody

I grew up in the early 80s idolizing Mark Roth to the extent of mocking his delivery wishing I could be as him…rest in peace Mark you will be missed by all of your fans

His 7-10 conversion is always shown on telecasts, but what is rarely if ever mentioned is that converting it allowed him to shut out the match. If he had missed, the door would have been open for him to lose.

RIP Mark Roth. The BEST, and only, cranker bowler of All Time! I made sure to watch The Pro Bowlers Tour on ABC every Saturday afternoon hoping he'd be in the finals. Shame he was robbed twice on bowling 300 games on TV. Thanks for posting!

He designed and defined the definition of the "Cranker" and how to open up the lane but stay on line without a yanker! Staying on the gas like he was fuled up from a tanker! Cashing in the wins combining bowling with a banker! As the game would change with time he continued to refine, his style as the master mind and seemed to never pass his prime! When it came to Mark, he could spot and hit a dime! In a jam or in a bind this man was CLUTCH! ONE OF A KIND! 10 in the pit the Rhino finds a string of strikes he always shines! Your passing leaves a pair of blank shoes! There is just no one to out rank you! With grip and rip he'd turn and spank you! You are the father of the hook! The thing about these older bowlers is that you know they're good, but you don't actually understand just how good they are because their footage isn't easily available. Seeing Mark bowl in this video, I further know why he's considered one of the greats.

Some people wondered why Roth held the ball so far out to his side. That's because he utilized what's known as an "in-out" swing.

Bowling like it should be on tv. Not fake excited announcers. Just few fans in the arena being coached to yell n scream. It’s hard to watch sadly 😢

Mark Roth is one of the best bowlers in the world and the moments he had on the Pba Tour were amazing that includes the Conversion of the 7 10 split and the titles he has won on the Pba Tour

The main pro bowler I regularly watched growing up. Btw, poor music choice for a tribute video, and should’ve included some interviews, quotes, light moments, etc.

I won a rhino black urethane ball back in 91 after a pacer game at a bowling exhibition that was after the game. Mark roth and mike aulby we’re hosting the exhibition for kids and they had a carpet lane with a rubber ball set up and the kids there each got to throw a shot and if you struck you moved on to the next round and I threw a couple of strikes and was one of the winners of a ball. The only bad part was carrying the ball from market square arena all the way to where we parked at, lol.
