Friday Freakout: Scary Horseshoe Malfunction With Student Rig

While wearing a student rig on a sit-fly jump, a skydiver has a horseshoe malfunction! His pin pops open and the bag comes out of the container as he flips on his back to track away at break-off. At that point, the pilot chute was still in the BOC, but eventually comes out of the BOC as the canopy inflates.
Yet another reminder how important it is to use freefly friendly gear, and it's also good practice to turn 180 degrees (away from the center of the 'formation') at break-off to clear your airspace above/behind you instead of blindly tracking away on your back.

I always imagined the worst case would be the lines somehow getting rapped around one's neck and strangling you when the chute gets partially inflated. It looks entirely possible when there's that spaghetti mess of slack lines.

@@updatedotexe the flaps could come undone and/or the risers come out. A freefly friendly rig may have magnetic riser covers.

@@updatedotexe this example wasnt by accident though... This dude clearly did a free fly jump on purpose with student gear. Student gear is cheap cause money don't grow on trees and schools buy in bulk. I bought new as soon as I realized renting sucks testicles.

Wouldn't this be considered a premature ejaculation rather than a horseshoe? I mean it was a "horseshoe shape". But the pin popping seems to me to be the real problem.
