The satisfaction of an organized spice rack! Feeding a ghosts sounds excellent.

Although I love the way you talk about books, I just love all the other wonderful parts of your life that you share. Whether it’s gardening, natural dyes, cooking/baking, knitting, stitching, traveling, or rowing, it is so delightful to learn about the many interests you have. You inspire me to pursue interests and experience new things. You have also expanded my world of reading. I am definitely putting in a library request for the graphic memoir. I love Carys Davies’ writing. The first book I read by her was West, and I was mesmerized. I picked up my library hold of Clear and can’t wait to start reading it. Just finished Beautyland by Marie Helene-Bertino and enjoyed it. I am so glad you are here on YT, Lindy.😊

Joanne, thanks so much for your lovely message. I feel warm all over. And thank you for reminding me about Beautyland; I enjoyed 2 am at the Cat’s Pyjamas and knew she had another book out but it had slipped my mind. Now it’s back front and centre on my TBR. 😘🤗

Hi Lindy, you’re having a wonderful summer with rowing cooking, knitting and embroidery stitch work. And of course reading! I found the end part very calming. Aloha friend.

Thanks Maya. I debated whether or not to increase the speed of needlework video and in the end I doubled it, which is still slow enough to see all the movements.

@@lindysmagpiereads you are amazing! When my house was renovated about five years ago we put in a Lazy Susan where we put our spices, but I always had spice jars since I was really young. I don’t have 60 spices though.😀

@@MarilynMayaMendoza A lazy Susan is a good idea for access to spices. This new spice rack came with sheets of labels for 500 (!!) different spices. I checked off 71 and then had to winnow my list because there are only 60 jars. 😆

I imagine there are many people who would find having so many spices unfathomable, but for me it’s a joy. 😁

Wow! God Human Animal Machine sounds like a can't miss to me, and I adore the way you talked about disenchantment vs enchantment in our perspective on the world around us. I will have to internalize that.

Clear grows in my estimation the more I think about it. Remarkable for such a spare novel. Thanks for telling me about your friend’s enjoyment of Brooms. It’s nice to hear that the word is spreading!

I finished Clear a couple of months ago and I'm still deciding what I think about the ending. Feeding Ghosts is on my list. I hope to get to it soon. As always, I love hearing what you are up to outside of books. Rowing, knitting, spices, oh my!

I was surprised by the ending of Clear, and surprise is a good thing for me. I’m going to include a spoiler, so anyone who doesn’t want to see it, stop here! . . . . . At first I thought it was too quick for Mary to have gone through the range of emotions she did before suggesting a solution. It seemed too neat. Too pat. But then I remembered her compassionate comments earlier on about eviction of the island resident and taking into account her close friendship with another woman when she was younger-it adds up to a realistic possibility for the ending chosen by the author. I also think that Ivor could no longer abide living in isolation, even if he had been allowed to, so it was good that he became part of a new family.
