I’ve only read two books on the long list for the Womens Prize but I’d recommend both Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver Tresspasses by Louise Kennedy ☕️📖🍀👋☘️📚📕

Do you think I need to have read David Copperfield to enjoy Demon Copperhead?

the women's prize always has some good books that i recommend to a lot of readers but imo, there's so many repeat authors that i'm getting a little tired of it lol. maggie o'farrell again (who is an author i really enjoy, actually), natalie haynes is on there again i think, madeline miller has been on there more than once. there's always a greek retelling, and it seems like every year they're like "ok, we got our [x] book, and our greek retelling, and our historical fiction novel about an unknown historical woman, a translated work, we got our thriller based in some rougher part of the UK" and so i just ... yeah. im like, wow, so different. so cool. lol. it's not that i dont think they shouldn't have parameters like that, but every year im like a little more meh about it tbh. it's a very marketable, readable prize, but idk if i'll actually read it like i used to. anyway, this was an unprompted rant, lmao, i enjoy hearing about your reading as always!

It's true! There really needs to be a bingo card. So many Greek retellings. It is very marketable and leans toward commercial, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but makes it not that appealing to me as a reader.

I totally echo your thoughts on the BTP. Last year I judged round 2 and that was a much better experience. For the Women's Prize I too have been intrigued by Bandit Queens, Cursed Bread and Dog of the North. I'm also intrigued by a few titles on the inaugural Carol Shields Prize.

I hadn't seen the Carol Shields prize until a bit later, but that prize looks amazing. I will have to dig into some of the titles a bit more but it appeals to me more than the Women's Prize right now.

@@bookishsabrina I totally agree. I've dnf'd two titles on the Women's Prize longlist (Memphis and Stone Blind) before they were nominated. The makes me reluctant to pick up more I'm picking up some of the Carol Shields longlisted books this week.

Looking them up right now! We have a little Irish book display at the library that I've been updating as titles get checked out. It's been fun to see what the library owns and that people are checking them out!
