Ray - can you fulfil these requirements and then ask for the indulgence be for a family member who has lost the faith but is gravely sick? In this case I would be asking for my younger brother who is terminally ill. (I know you said you could for a soul in purgatory)

From my understanding it only applies to the dead. You can do the 5 first Saturdays for those that are living.
