If you’re needing to declutter this often, the key would be to buy less food. Period. But given that you have 2 fridges and freezers full of food for a family of 4, that clearly isn’t your style. 🙃 For you, what would be more feasible would be to meal prep and plan based on what you have at home. Make an inventory sheet of what you have in all your fridges and freezers. We tend to forget what we have (out of sight, out of mind) so make it a point once in a while to do a “pantry and fridge meal” week where you make meals only from what’s in the fridge and pantry. Similar to your no buy January, you can do a no buy week for groceries and get only the BARE essentials. And being more mindful in general of what you actually need versus what just looks good and impulse buying. Intentional shopping takes practice, but can be done and makes things so much easier and leads to less food waste.

I actually got too into Kayla’s vlog at one point of time snd started buying unnecessary things..just because I thought it looked fun. Bad bad idea.. I definitely regret the enormous clutter I created and not everyone in the world has that much storage space either. I love the term intentional buying ❤️

You've been doing great Mama! I'm sure Joe's love meter is going way up 😜 We only have the fridge freezer and it has shelves instead of drawers so I try to use the space super efficiently and don't buy too many freezer meals just because we don't have space. I also buy meat in bulk and portion it into single meal sizes which I'm sure cuts down on space. Meat and bread products on bottom shelf, frozen fruit/veg, ice cream, pierogies or dumplings on the top shelf.

My understanding is that fruit lasts longer in the fridge if you DON'T wash it first. You wash it AFTER you take it out of the fridge. That's my best advice. Clearly Kayla, you don't need me. You clearly know what you're doing.

Loving these cleaning/decluttering videos!!! I clean out my fridge/freezer and wipe it all down literally weekly before i put groceries away. We also keep a running list with Alexa so we know what we’re running low on. “Alexa! Add butter to the shopping list.” Etc :) Once you get into a good routine, it is simple to maintain! Especially if you dont want to see all your hard work/effort wasted. ♥️ Fridge looks so good!!

I usually food shop every weekend. I make a list of 5-6 dinners I’m gonna cook. I base it off of what is already in my fridge, freezer or pantry then add more of what I wanna cook or eat to the shopping list.. I make sure I have breakfast items too and lunch is usually leftovers from those 6 dinners. I make sure to see if I already have something before I add it to my list of what to buy. I understand wanting to have extras of things but I also don’t wanna be wasteful and buy something I already have 3 of. Shop from your own house and then make a list. Only buy what is on the list, maybe allow yourself 1-3 things that were not on the list. You’ll save yourself from having to do this again. It’s also easier to wipe down a fridge or freezer regularly when it’s not junked. Love your videos💛

Hi! A very helpful tip from my future mother in law is to have a table (on paper or on your iPad/computer) for all your frozen meats and frozen homemade foods with the date that they were frozen (and also marked on the containers/bags), they all go bad after an x amount of months (it depends on the type of meat or food), and it is not always visible. That way you know when something is potentially going bad and you can plan accordingly.

Girl I just finished cleaning my fridge too, you inspired me!! I always wash our fruit in water+vinegar as soon as we get home so that it ready to go. We used to waste so much food as well and I’m the same as you, I hate seeing food go to waste. I started meal planning based on what we have and it has saved us so much food, time, and $$$!!

I’m also doing a kitchen deep clean this week. I’m 30 weeks pregnant so I figured I could get started on doing a deep clean schedule leading up to my delivery so me and my husband don’t have to worry about doing the most those first few weeks postpartum with cleaning. This week is my kitchen and living room. Last week we did all 3 bathrooms. I need to clean my fridge and freezer out lol. The fridge isn’t bad with stuff needing to be thrown away, but it’s definitely time to wipe surfaces down and stuff haha the freezer is another story. Lots of clutter in there lol

We have an freezer inventory. Plus meal plan. So there we are grocery shopping like a mad person. We also make a couple big meals out of the week. So we eat the leftovers for lunch and dinner.

If you have a Walmart or Container store near you, The Home Edit has organizational bins and sets for different spaces and I think there’s a fridge one. And yes I wash and prep all my kid’s fruits & veggies every time we grocery shop. They immediately get washed then up into their snack bins on the bottom shelf in the fridge where they can reach it

My son eats strawberries and blueberries daily so I buy big packages of them from costco. I hated mid week a lot of the strawberries went bad. I bought produce storage bins with lids and started washing/soaking in water and thieves produce solution. Then let air dry a bit. I also put strawberries stem down in the produce bin and they have been lasting perfect for a week to even 10 days!

I don’t know if this would work for you but mason jars keep fruit fresh for a long time and in my opinion they don’t take that much space I use them mainly for strawberries grapes or left over fruit Love your videos btw!!!!!❤️ great job!

Fridge organization absolutely should have been a class in high school. We struggle. Whats hard for you is honestly how picky Jackson is. I'm the picky eater in our house, and it makes both the grocery shopping and the food storage really hard to gage correctly every single time. We also have a toddler with food allergies and my SO tries to do gluten free when we realistically can because it's harder on his digestion. And what that means from a practical perspective is we have 3 kinds of a lot of foods. We have 3 kinds of Mac n cheese, 3 kinds of yogurt, 6 kinds of drinks (2 for each of us), 3 kinds of pasta sauce, etc. And you combine that with leftovers and other things, and it gets HARD. We loosely group things this way: Left side of the fridge shelves is ingredients for each person, right side of those shelves is the snacks/leftovers for that person. Bottom shelf is allergy free for toddler, middle shelf is me. Next shelf is him, top shelf is everyone's fluids. Door shelves are roughly a free for all. Top drawer is meat/cheese/toddler snacks. Bottom drawer is fruit and veg that hasn't been prepared yet. Pantry follows roughly the same layout. Grandpa stays with us a few weeks at a time, so he shares the SO's shelves. We want to try the basket/container method to help the organization but we haven't yet.

I’ve seen people do a monthly, ‘only eat from the freezer stuff’ so essentially don’t buy new stuff for a week or so just to keep things used up and under control. Meat can be frozen for a LONG time, years I believe as long as it’s staying frozen the whole time

Fruit storage hack that I recently started doing and actually works: put your unwashed fruits in mason jars in the fridge. They last much longer than simply putting them in the fridge straight from the grocery store.
