Great video.....all 3 amps sound great. The kicker for me with the Friedman is build quality and being new. I've owned Marshall heads in about all flavors since the 80's and with good ol' tube amp tech's getting scarce ( in my area anyway) reliability pushes the Friedman to the top for me.

Loving your videos man. I feel the same way about amps that try to copy and improve on the Marshall sound. They can get close, add more gain, tame the highs, and all that jazz. And at the end of the day, the reason why Marshall sounds the way it does (especially in the mix) is because it has all those characteristics that people seemingly want to remove. And don't even get me started on the way it feels to play. Simply amazing.

Very appropriate comparison of the Small Box and 1987X. I think you summed it up perfectly at 7:20 when you said that they are similar, but the Marshall is a little more aggressive. The mids are more pronounced with the Marshall making the Friedman a bit thinner-sounding in its "Plexi Mode" too. 4-Holers rule! The Friedman is probably more flexible though and I understand that Friedman master volume controls are very effective. As for the 2203...yes..."different beast" and as seen in your expression when you switched to it is your favorite.

Thanks! Both are great amps indeed. The Friedman is a bit more ”user friendly” since it has a master volume. Actually two. And it has a more gain on tap kinda like a gain modded Plexi. But…a real Marshall Plexi is always a real Marshall Plexi. It can be a ”harsh mistress” but when / if you manage to tame it down it’s absolutely fantastic and one of a kind. And really really loud.

My Friedman Small Box is my all time favorite amp and has been now since I got it back in I believe 2014. Great video and great playing for sure! One of the best Friedman Small Box demos I have seen. I‘m going back and forth comparing my Smallbox to my 1959slp, JCM800 and Silver Jubilee thinking about which one maybe replaced by something completely different and always come to the same conclusion (space wise unfortunately). The Friedman Smallbox is an awesome refined Marshall tone that you almost don’t even have to high pass or eq in post because it’s almost too perfect if that makes sense… And don’t get me wrong I would never part from it and maybe if I only could have one Marshall Style amp this would be it. But on the other hand the JCM800 and Super Lead have such a rewarding nasty high end growl and punch to it, that I just can’t get out of the Smallbox. My least favorite of the bunch is the Silver Jubilee - but I just own the studio version so it’s not completely fair to compare. In the end it’s all flavors of awesomeness and I feel lucky to own them all. 🤷🏻‍♂️👊
@myuncle2
@myuncle2 2 жыл бұрын
@@christopher.k.guitar We have the same taste. I don't like the Silver Jubilee nor the BE100 (both too dark and compressed), but the Friedman SmallBox is the one to keep, not only because it's as open as a Plexi, but also because it has a better master volume and less hum than a Marshall.

Hey man. Fantastic demo, explanation, playing, riffs, and solo. Your smile when you were playing the 800...hehehehe Marshall is the King! Friedman is the Crown Prince. Only reason he isn't the *King* is because Marshall came first. Yes? :D I'm trying to decide between the Small Box and the BE-50 Deluxe. The main attraction to the Deluxe is the 3 channels (volume boost for live solos) and the half power switch so I don't kill people when I'm playing it at home. I have a Marshall JVM410 Satriani model that I really love...only problem is it is too loud at home. Thank you from Austin Tx. brother. CHEERS!!!!!!!

They all sound great. The Friedmans are smoother which can be a good or a bad thing depending of taste, their advantage is that they have an excellent master volume and an amazing effects loop. They are expensive, though. I think you need to try the Friedman Jake E Lee. It's by far the most Marshallesque Friedman, it has two channels, the first one is like the plexi channel of the Smallbox, but the second channel is like a JCM800. It's not a BE derivative like most of the Friedman amps.

@EugeValovirta230V
@EugeValovirta230V Жыл бұрын
If you have one 16 ohm cab connected then the amp to 16 but if you have two 16 ohm then the amp to 8 etc. If you’re not sure just keep the amp’s impedance lower than the speakers but never higher. The optimal is obviously that they match. And the speaker’s ohms should be the same with each other too. If you have one 8 and one 16 ohm = no good.

I tried one of my friend friedman amp myself (forgot the type since he has alot of amps), and its good amp but its feels like im playing marshall. Similar type of sonic sound. And my friends always said hes trying to find a plexi sound on that amp. And then i told him, why dont u buy plexi instead....duh??? I just dont get it every guitar player that using “boutique amp” always trying finding a marshall sound, why just dont get marshall...🤔🤔🤔 Anyway i find a nice info about friedman amp from tonymackenzie yotube channel, its on the snake skin marshall vintage studio video. @EugeValovirta230V

The cabinet / speakers / microphones or Reactive Load / Impulse Response being used plays a huge part of the sound like on a normal audio stereo system so you might want to try out different cabs, speakers etc. And I use the BOSS SD-1 to tighten the sound (not always) which is quite tight in the first place ’cos the most important thing for a good tight sound is to play good & tight👌. Amplifiers just amplify what they get. No post EQ or anything.

@@EugeValovirta230V True, but they have a lot in common. Maybe Friedman takes some of the bass out in early gain stages, and adds it back in the power amp section with the depth circuit.
